Manual boost controller and midpipe
#1
Ok I have a turbo smart mbc just laying around. I was thinking about changing out my high flow cat to a midpipe since I will be getting tuned in the near future. I have had very few issues with boost creep (creeps to 12psi and stays there), I was wondering once I put the midpipe on and change to my mbc if I will have any issues with boost creep? In other words are mbcs extremely effective at controlling boost creep? My mods are 3"downpipe, highflow cat (going to change to midpipe), m2 exhaust, large smic, poorman nonsequential, turbo xs rfl bov, walboro 255 fuel pump, and apexi power fc. I plan on upgrading my secondary injectors to 1300cc real soon. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

A MBC only tricks the wastegate solenoid as to when it starts performing its tasks. The problem with true "boost creep" that there is too much flow for the wastegate size. Changing the behavior of the wastegate solenoid will not have any effect if there is just too much flow for the actual wastegate to handle. This is where wastegate porting comes into play.
However, not every car experiences boost creep. There is also a difference between boost creep and boost spike. A spike, any boost controller MBC or EBC and have an affect on. Boost creep is more of a wastegate physical size limitation.

Boost controller cannot prevent boost creep, only a larger (ported) wastegate can fix that. I wouldnt put on the midpipe at the very least until the powerfc is on and you can tune for it. Then still watch boost very carefully for creep, some people get away with a midpipe and no creep.

thanks for the input guys. The power fc is already on...running on a base map. I guess I would call what I have "creep" it never goes above 12psi when its colder out as opposed to 10psi normally. Well I'm still waiting on my injectors and whenever Steve Khan comes in town, I'll get it tuned.
