Update.

I have just tried a compression test but all I can say is inconclusive. The gauge I got is pretty close to useless. When holdng in the release valve open u cover where the air has to come out so I got readings all over the place.

I had a listen with the two trailng plugs out. What should the sound be like if the engine is good? I got very loud tffft tffft noise that was very consistent.

Sorry couldnt find the edit button. I just retried after playing with the gauge a bit. I got 3 spikes of 100psi from the front rotor and 2 spikes of around 50psi and one spkie of 80 - 90 on the rear rotor so we know what time its!!!!

REBUILD TIME!!!!!!!!!! I`m kind of looking forward to it I`ve watched DIY-RE 4 times already and just want to get started. I`m more worried about getting the engine out and back in with all the connectors etc in the right place then the actual rebuild.

While I have the engine out I`m thinking of doing some porting. I would like to do a half bridge on it but after reading all the posts in the engine building section I cant work out how many have done it on an FD? The car is mainly for track use so it doesnt have to be great on the road. I also want to port the exhaust slightly in preperation for the single next year, and ill port the wastegate.

I looked at the porting templates on mazdatrix but they dont do the exhaust one for the fd why is that? Also they dont accept UK credit cards so not sure what to do about that yet.

Also the engine will have just been rebuilt and I`m gonna need to run it in for 2000miles keeping under 4000rpm I read. With the porting will the engine run without sorting the map out because its gonna take some time before I do the 2000 or can it be mapped before the run in? bear in mind I gotta drive 150 miles to get to the nearest rotary specialist.

I want to do the fuel system to, I want 1200cc secondarys with 850cc primarys or 1600cc secondarys and 1000cc or 1200cc primarys (aiming for 450 - 500 rwhp) Again how do I get the map done if I`m running in?

I guess I could leave the fuel system till the run in is done but the porting will have to be done while i rebuild.

I would just do a decent sized streetport.

550/1600 or 850/1600 is fine for your goals.

It will run on the base powerFC map just fine.

get a wideband next time.

the knock sensor on the fd is worthless

you cant get a grip on what is going on with it, mine read 300 when nothing was knocking...

That's because you drive a real man's FD where everything is solid this/solid that and shakes.
