Hi guys, Ive just loaded a new map onto my pfc from this website http://opus.bloomcounty.org/~patrick/pfc/ and took the car for a couple of runs. I was watching my knock sensor and it didnt seem to go over about 50ish I know they arnt very accurate but thats all i`ve got at the moment. When I got back from the second run the car wouldnt idle very well. It would go up and down between 700 - 800rpm and trying to stall and there was a tffft tfffft tffft sort of noise coming from the engine. When I raise the revs a bit the noise speeds up then goes away at about 1500rpm. My vacuum reading is a bit low ie 300 instead of 500 so maybe I`ve got a leak? all the hoses have just been replaced and it was fine when I took it out before the drive and there are no boost issues.

any ideas?

check the compression..... that noise is the compression going from one chamber to another....

could it possibly mean a blow engine then?

that'd be my bet. Check around for obvious loose hoses, especially at the MAP sensor. I think a compression test is gonna tell you that you popped the engine however.

You dont change maps in the computer without having a wideband to verify what is going on.

Without the map, I was getting a huge reading on the knock sensor when I drove it and it felt crap after the map it was under 40/50 on the knock sensor and drove fine, I still didnt push at all.

I`ve gotta wait till next week before I get a compression tester but I`ve had a listen with the screwdriver technique. I placed the screwdriver in between the plugs. The front rotor just makes a whuring noise the rear rotor has a slight metalic ting so I guess its blown.

But hey nevermind I was going to rebuild next year anyway.

lol, hold a screwdriver to the area u want to listen to then put your ear to it, It acts like a stethescope *sp.

FikseRxSeven 12-17-2005 01:37 PM

why dont you just take a spark plug out... you can hear the whooshes as you turn the car over

rfreeman27 12-19-2005 11:23 PM

the knock sensor on the fd is worthless

you cant get a grip on what is going on with it, mine read 300 when nothing was knocking...
