Has anyone installed a lightened flywheel? I have an ACT flywheel, an ACT clutch kit and a slightly used counterweight. I thought this was goignt o be a pretty straight forward project, but yesterday a friend of mine asked if I had the front cover gaskets. I had assumed the counterweight went on with the flywheel, but he claims it goes on the front of the engine. So which is it? I did a search and, as usual, I got everything except what I was looking for.

 

You're both right. There's a counter weight behind the front cover, and there's a counter weight on the flywheel.

 

Never mind...I found it in the service manual. I was right

 

Okay, but when going to a lightened flywheel the rear one is the one that needs to be changed, right?

 

Yes, only the rear weight is added, since the stock flywheel has an integrated counterweight. While I don't currently have one (seriously considering it though)...can you imagine if everyone had to pull off the front cover to install one? Think about how much work THAT would be.

 

Yeah, no doubt. I am pulling the engine to do it though...changing over to a set of j-spec turbos, full exhaust, FMIC, Koyo radiator and a few other goodies. Thanks for the input.
