Just Purchased 93 Touring Edition
#1
Hello all I have just become one of you!!!! I have wanted one of these for soo frickin long I could taste it. anyway 93 needs a little work 75K compression tested out to 85 psi both rotors no major oil leaks body very sraight couldn't pass up the price.
Now on to the questions.
1) floods easy when cold or hot & idles a little rough no smoke of any kind after start up or while driving
2) it's a dog off the line read some specs 4.6sec 0-60 not this one doesn't really start to move until around 3.5 to 4.5 on the tach then takes off but NOT what I would expect.
3) don't know much of the history, old man bought it new died three month ago went into probate thats it.
4) seems like there is a vaccum leak someplace but I don't know were to start.
Any advice guy's!??!?
I have a lot of reading to do and will do my homework just want to know were to start!!
Thanks all

seems a bit low on the compression dj..
if i recall correctly.. compression minimum of 690 kilopascals or 100psi
number four is most likely related to two..
grab a boost gauge to run the numbers.. sounds like you have primary turbo issues..
check your ypipe coupling..

sounds like a headache...
no boost is probably a combination of the silicon couplers and clamps causing a boost leak and vacuum lines needing to be replaced. could also be a bad solenoid somewhere. if you aren't very good at working on cars and very detailed oriented find a good rotary specialist in your area as fixing boost issues is a biatch.
the flooding could be so many things - bad injectors, bad wiring, relays etc.
check/replace the silicon couplers and clamps, replace the plugs and get a boost gauge. come back and do some research on boost issues that fit the boost pattern that you are getting. you should get a 10-8-10 boost pattern stock.

well thanks for the replies, looks like I will be purchasing a manual. Used to turn wrenchs for 3 years so I feel comfortable under the hood. There are a bucnch of zip ties on the vacuum hoses that just don't look rite and the are different colors " blue yellow red" I can only assume that stock was all black?
Thanks again

yep my thoughts too, can't wait to go and get my hands a little dirty!! what manual would you guys recommend? Do they sell a silicone hose kit or is it buy individual? Lastly if I cannot get it right anybody know a good rotary shop in Portland Oregon or does anybody live around here that would be willing to lend a hand? I will bribe with beer or your choice of liquor!!!

You can either buy a worlshop manual off ebay, mazdatrix.com or youcan download one from iluvmyrx7.com
For the twins you need about 30 feet of 3.5 ID silicone vac hose. Its cheaper if you buy it by the foot. www.hosetechiques.com
Look in the links page on iluvmyrx7.com and make sure you visit Robinettes site and Lightning in a World of Thunder. Those are bith great sites for beginers.
Good luck,

Agree on the vacuum hoses probably leaking...and may not hurt to change plugs and wires. Change oil and filter right away and again after about 1000. Then normal intervals 2000-2500. I would also change out differential and transmission fluids. Run some fuel system/injector cleaner through it too. My .02.
And congratulations! First things first, drive it around the block and grin your *** off. You finally got one!
