how long does your car sit between driving ? if you all remember you are driving a rotary car.. it has more than just apex seals. the smell of gas in your oil means one or more of these seals is sepping gas to the oil,its not extremely bad but it could be a warning sign that something may go soon. also think about oil mixing with gas it thins the oil, hmmmm... thin oil.. oil pressure.. turbos.. horsepower.. ((( also you will not see oil NOT mix with gas since they are both petrol and heated they will most certainly bind))) this smell came from my car when i let it sit alot, then i changed the oil before driving it no matter how long between sessions. during the summer it went away when i drove it everyday. i would say to change your oil more frequently, one because of the gas in the oil and gas will break down any kind of seal, o-rings,housing gaskets, apex seals, anything.... a real mazda mechanic will tell you the same, and he will also tell you rotaries mix oil with gas not the other way around, atleast they shouldn`t..

pickup a factory mazda service manual it may help.......

It always darkens mine, and thins it out a good bit. I change every 2K miles... I wish I could help answer the "why" question. Let me know if you find anything!

i put almost 25,000 miles on my FD this year, and i change the oil every 1500-2000 miles. i DO NOT use synthetic oil. and i am not going to delv into that at this time.....i do have a manual.....are there really and REAL mazda service techs? i do not know....i talked to a mazda mechanic from pennsylvania this week on the phone for almost an hour trying to help him figure out what is wrong with an rx7.....what gives.....

BUT.....back to the oil.....there is a guy right outside of baton rouge louisianna who mixes his OWN OIL, and has sheets that i HAVE SEEN IN PERSON NOW, that OUTLAST the other brands....you name it, his oil beats it in all categories......ash, and what not........he says that most companies use cheap base petrol and put in a lot of additives to make the oil better ....and to top that, he uses a FULL 5 gallon bucket of royal purple as a door stop......that is some ****......my friend chris, who tows out of state everyday, got me hooked up with this guy, and i saw the oil after chris went 15,000 miles on it, and it still looked NEW....no ****.....the oil is red to start, and was red when it came out of the dually.....

i ordered 5 gallons of it and am going to try it out on tuesday and see what it is all about.....even though i changed the oil yesterday...oh well, that is the cost of experimentation.....i just wonder how it will do if the rotary is notorious for getting fuel into the oil pan or what not......IF that is actually what happens.....
