i recently installed a re-amenya ecu on my1993r1.i purchased it from ebay from a japanese based seller and now every one in a while the idle surges from 950 to3000 rpm.any ideas on a fix

does the idle stay normal when you use the stock ecu?

that would be a good starting point. also, is the engine cold when it spikes, or is it already warmed up? The accelerated warmup system might be trying to light off your cats if the engine is cold. Try starting the car in 1st gear with the clutch in. That should make the revs climb to no higher than 1500..

I would also recommend against the use of the "chipped" ecu, since they do not have decent compensation for your mods. How's the overall quality of the ECU? does it have shitty solder points? These are things to look for in terms of long term reliability

i also installed 3'down and mid pipe with a apexi gt spec muffler at the same time as the ecu was installed.i left the air pump connected to keep the idle clean.should i block off the pipe that used to go to the cat

it only happens after car is warmed up and only once in a while
