Thumbs up

I havent seen a post on this before so i figured i'd give it a shot. What are the best ans fastest ways to drop weight off of a FD?

The only 4 i know of that are easy but expensive are

1. Carbon fiber hood

2. Carbon fiber doors

3. Carbon fiber hatch with plexi-glass

4. Wheels

So what else is good?

Ditch the Spare tire

Their was a guy who drove an Acura Integra who said he could kill my Fd cause he no longer had his spare tire holding him back

Well your ideas aren't going to work well on the FD because so much of it is already light from the factory. There is nothing to gain on the hood, 100% aluminum and about as light as it gets. The doors are light as well, the plexi hatch may give some gains though.. again, not much. Wheels, nope, light as hell from the factory.. I think they are a hair under 16lbs each. Even Volk's lightest wheel barely beats that, and when most people upgrade they go with 17 or 18 inch wheels.. bigger tires on those = more potential weight.

One of the best ways to lose weight on the FD is the exhaust system, that thing weighs a ton. Precat, main cat, and catback have got to weigh 100lbs combined.. go with nice SS units (or even titanium!) and you will save 75% of that.

Hum i bet your right about all that. I knwo the hatch weighs a ton and you can save a lot by going to the aftermarket one. I bet the exhaust is a good place to start too but very expensive to go all titanium. What else can we do?

What are you trying to get at? Are you talking about racing the car or still being able to keep it on the road??

Cause if you are looking for more speed you might want to try other things........

Your gonna waste money on carbon fiber this and titanium that only to shave a few thousndths of a second on your 1/4 miles.

No i just thougt it would be interesting to see how easy it would be to shave a few 100 lbs off. I am building a 88 T2 for racing i know how to strip that. 1 seat and well nothing else that isent needed, lol. It looks like droping the weight on a FD is really hard thou.

Its on of the lightest cars on the road. Of course it is hard to do But I just wouldn't waste my time or take this risk of screwing something up only to save a few pounds.
