Another question is, do any of you have a vented hood? Notice any temp difference? I REALLY need somewhere for the heat to go, and i'm considering a vented carbon fiber hood. If i turn on the heater, i can drop my temps a lot faster, but at the expense of baking myself.
That's insanely hot. Do you run your fans?

jason at J-T imports should be able to get that thermostat. that is damn hot, my engine was getting really hot towards the end of its life. 3 or 4 of the coolant passages were clogged with sludge. when was the last time you had your cooling system checked??



what if any are the advantages of running an open thermostat??

Yes fans are running. I just need to duct everything so no air goes around my radiator.



Also you have to take into effect that the ambient temp outside was at least 105F with 100% Humidity. Its going to be hard for ANY car to have cool temps at that temperature outside. I live in a Tropical climate, not up north or out west where most of you do, where you have heat, but no humidity. lucky bastages.

I built a duct today to go OVER the radiator and stuff to keep air from going over the top.. it dropped the temps maybe, 3C but thats about it.. i was still running at about 104-108C on the highway at cruising speeds of 65-80mph.



Ambient temp: 95F

Humidity: 60%



Anyone have any ideas how else i can get the heat to drop? Will putting the heat shield over the hotside of the turbo drop temps? Just seems whenever i get on it, the temps start to jump.. and i'm not lean.



Is a hood my only way out? If i turn on the heater i can get INSTANT temp dropage... just seems like the heat needs somewhere to go.

Do you have a front mount intercooler or something in the way?



You shouldn't run that hot and the turbo you're using should have very little to do with engine temps. Make sure your engine is in tune.



If you have a front mount intercooler that combined with 100F ambient temperature probably is the problem.

Wrap your downpipe and make a sheild to block the eng for the heat of the turbine. It might sound ghetto but drip some small holes in the thermostat, to let more coolant flow to the motor. Or take it out and see what happens, you will be fine untill it gets cold. What mix of coolant/water are you using? Have you done the fan mod yet?

You need to make some ducting for the sides of the radiator as well. I had the exact same problem you have now before, although not as drastic. On the highway where the you are moving too fast for the fans to do much my temps would slowly climb in warm weather, they would never reach a dangerous point but it displeased me nonetheless. I removed the undertray and cut templates out of cardboard. I then made aluminum sheets for each side that sealed the sides of the radiator off and ran all the way up to the bumper opening, there was simply no place for the air to go now except through the radiator instead of around it. The difference it made was simply staggering, now my cruise temps vary anywhere from 83C to about 90C on a really hot day when I am boosting for a while. I am not sure which FMIC you have, but I have the Blitz fmic and it is thick as any I have seen, I measured it at 4".

so you basically ran metal sheets on both sides of the radiator to the front bumper? like, some sort of trapazoid? so its now basically boxed in?
