Ok, well i went on my first road trip with my 7.. and boy does it get hot as hell in the car/engine bay. The T78 will heat things up very quickly. Cruising on the highway i was seeing water temps of 111C and it got up to 116C for a short time after playing around some on the highway. I do have an aluminum radiator and stuff. It was about 97F outside, so the pavement was probably 105F... but on the way home at night i stayed at about 96C, but i never let the turbo produce any boost.

I plan on making a shield to go over the radiator and stuff, as i've seen from other cars and making a ducting system to make sure NO air goes around anything.

Also while looking through some Japanese parts magazines, i noticed that ARC sells a 75C thermostat for our cars, can anybody here in the states get that? Since are thermostats are wide open at 95C, i'd much rather start moving coolant earlier.

Another question is, do any of you have a vented hood? Notice any temp difference? I REALLY need somewhere for the heat to go, and i'm considering a vented carbon fiber hood. If i turn on the heater, i can drop my temps a lot faster, but at the expense of baking myself. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

umm how hot is that in "F" my car runs 180 on the highway 210 beating on it

my vented hood makes a difference, with my t04 single, front mount, and a STOCK RADIATOR, the most I'll see is 99-100 celcius!!!!!!

If you want a billion theromstat I can go order you one. I believe they are around 70 dollars I will check to make sure. I also welded two bolts to the top of the turbine so I could attach a home made heat sheild and warped everything. With my vented hood you can watch the heat come out the vents, so It has to help some what.

111C = 231.8F

116C = 240.8F

so, it was running pretty damn warm..

my car hit 230 once when i was beating on the car drifting and i did 3 successive *laps* there is something wrong on your car! it is way too hot! maybe tuning is lean and making it run hot ?

Since my rebuild, I have not seen more than 210F. Thats with the stock radiator. I'd prolly shat in my pants if I saw 240!

Make sure theres no air bubbles in the coolant....

maybe, but i doubt it, the map is pretty rich. I don't have a shield over the turbo or over the radiator to keep air from going around it yet. It just seems like its getting really hot underhood, and soaking everything. Pretty much the heat has no where to go and is heating up my car. When its cool outside i don't have a problem, just when it was hot. I mean, it was probably 103F outside that day, so your car can only be AS cool as the air outside. It was hot enough for me to get a small sunburn on my arm, from hanging it out the window for 1 hour.

Florida sucks for heat and humidity. I turn the heater on and the temps start to drop.. just needs somewhere to go. I'll keep you guys updated, but i think it really has to do with aerodynamics.. mainly air having somewhere to go and not getting pushed around my radiator. Cuz at low speeds, my temps aren't high.. just when i'm going over 60mph. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

A yep. I'm over in Pensacola. I had my parents SUV for awhile and it couldn't handle the heat idleing in traffic with the AC on. I feel your pain. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
