i agree the wrx is a geat dd in the northeast

 

well by no means was I saying the STi or WRX was a superior car, if it sounded that way it was probably ego j/k. And to Mazdadrifter, there IS such a thing as an "all around racecar" and those are RALLY cars. They are designed to race well on a variety of surfaces, including switching from multiple types of surfaces during the same, multi-stage race. The arguement can be made, of course, that they are not actual race cars out of the box, afterall, they dont come with roll cages, Teratrip monitors, internal communication systems, fire supression, and...oh wait, thats all they would need to compete in any non Group 8 class rally. (Group 8 is FIA WRC). Just like all an RX-7 really needs to compete legally in almost any kind of road/track race is a cage and basic saftey stuff, the WRX/STi is built to be as close to a rally car out of the box as you can get. With its active diffs and torque transferring ability they can rotate and even drift like a RWD car amazingly well, considering their weight, and that they DO have "Compromises" (not to be confused with "comprimise." As for the Ford Focus...bad analogy, weak arguement. The ford focus street car (not counting the Euro RS) are all FF cars with weak motors. The WRX/STi are using the same AWD chassis 2.0 motor and independent suspension out of the factory that the full blown WRC cars are based on. Thats the differnece: For a car to qualify for WRC use, it has to have at least a 2000 a year production build of an identical chassis, hence "homologation model/car/chassis" Also why there are the Focus RS's available in Europe. If i was going to race on a track, i would definately take a FD or FC (maybe) over a WRX/STi, but if i was doing ANYTHING else that might involve the slightest non-paved road (especially living in alaska hahaha) I would drive,race, and bulid the WRX/STi chassis, which ive done. And know im moving on to the RX7, im very unbiased in the view point of the two cars, no matter what it might sound like, but the racing history speaks for itself, 3 consecutive wins in the WRC, 5 total wins, 8 years of non-stop podium finishes, all based off the street going homologation car. WRX's make great DD, but my RX7 will be like the mistress, ya gotta keep her for the special occasion.

 

i've heard technical directors from wrc teams speak about wrc cars on pavement and how much modification they need to convert to tarmac. they've said themselves that wrc cars aren't designed for pavement and to run on pavement they have to make compromises.



maybe i should have clarified, a "competent" all around racecar. Because technically, i can race my diesel jetta, on dirt, pavement, snow, ice, you name it. that doesn't mean that i'd ever be sucsessfull, or even win a race. I guess my bicycle could be an all around race bike too, if i put a 5hp briggs and straton on it.



I'm not sure what your trying to prove at all by drawing this out, but you've said it yourself an rx7 is a better pavement racing platform for paved roads (which the video was held on). If you want to start arguing better daily drivers then i'd have to say that my 50+ mpg diesel jetta is a better dd, but i guess that's just opinions now isn't it?

Nice vid my friend Ran an Sti on the dyno ran 284 whp not bad Id have to say. One of my other friends derek has the new wrx impreza not sti. he said it runs around 240 hp.

showroom sti is by no means a wrc car..

everyone has the misconception that just because it shares the same a platform that its a wrc car...

modifications are required... as any car to run a particular motorsport...

it certainly does has an advantage over the seven with its seasonal drivetrain.....

 

The video was nice, the zooming was definitely kinda annoying cause it made it so jumpy. I'm sure like all the others, I would have preferred to hear the car noises rather than the music... but still it was a nice video.
