Hi There,

I have recently almost completed a single turbo conversion, engine rebuilt, porting etc... but im having a few issues getting the engine and gearbox back in. This is the first time I have attempted anything like this, so excuse my ignorance if im missing anything obvious.

I took the engine an d gearbox out as one unit in the beginning of the conversion, so I am putting it back in as one.

I followed the FSM:

1) Fill torque conveter with ATF

2) Align torque converter onto input shaft of gearbox

3) Ensure torque conveter sits fully on the shaft

4) Mate gearbox to engine

Then I put it into the engine, and I now have to rotate the torque conveter, whilst locking the drive plate to align the 4 bolts positions on the conveter/plate. The problem is the drive plate wont move without moving the torque conveter and there is not enough room in the inspection plate to rotate the torque conveter with locking the drive plate... so.. the result is I can not seem to align those 4 bolt holes and put the 4 bolts in to lock the conveter/plate together...

Is this usually what happens?? or have I screwed up somewhere!

Thanks,

James

the best way to line up the torque converter bolts is to get it as close as possible before mating them together.

my advice is to put one of the empty holes at the top of the motor and one of the torque converter bolts at the top of the trans, then put them together without letting the torque converter turn.

or you can insert the driveshaft into the back of the trans and set the trans in a position other then neutral or park and that should allow you to spin the torque converter as you're putting the two together,.

Thanks for the reply, I managed to get this sorted over the weekend, the problem was the drive plate was "locked" to the torque converter some how..

After some jiggling around they ended up seating properly, the flex plate made a little pining noise, so something was pushing on it. the only thing I could think was the torque conveter had shfted forward and ended up locking them together...

im having the same problem. only thing is that i put the engine back into my car and the flex plate was way off. the two seem jammed together and even with the motor 10mm forward, they still seem locked. im a noob at this also so i wonder if there is any more info on doing this. it seems as if the drive plate almost presses around the tourque converter.

While im here i may as well ask this: there is what looks like an actuator or valve on the end of the fuel rail. Its close to the firewall and has a vacum line size outlet on it. I cant remember where it went. any suggestions? Even if someone could shoot me a pic of their setup it would be much appreciated!

Thanks
