fd oil presure q?

my guage is droping wen i come to a stop all the way to zero
when i take off it goes slowly to 60 and over .
cold start the it goes al the way up to almost to 120
can the gauge be bad or the sender unit .how often does the pump fails?

Dude I would first remove the oil pressure sensor first to see if it is any good. It is locatd just below your oil filter pedistal. Check to see you get consistant ohms. And replace that first it is cheaper. An fc3s one might work to but it would have to be an s5. As far as the pump going out I also have never heard of such a thing but if your engine was getting oil starved you'd know. First it would be running much hotter due to the lack of oil to cool the rotors. Also you could check to see if your oil looks burnt due to the lack of recirculation. But i would start with the sending unit. Then the gauge. Then the pump. Cause to change the pump you need to pull the pan and the front cover and all those goodies. Well i hope that helps.
Good Luck

The sender occaisionally fails, but more frequently it's just the single wire contact at the sender. They get dirty pretty easy since it sits right under the oil filter pedestal. Try some spray contact cleaner, or after cleaning it up just replace the OEM connector with a quality connector that shield's it a little. This worked for me.
I'm not a electrical engineer, but speculate that at idle the signal is pretty weak and if the connection is a little dirty, it doesn't get through and your gauge reads zero.
The FSM specifies 55 psi at 3000 rpm. If your seeing that, your pressure at idle is probably fine.

I am an electrical engineer at john deere and he is right!! i had this same problem and i cleaned it and replaced it with a better wire and its been great since...

the engines rarely have oil pressure problems, 99% of the time its sender/wire

Mine does the same thing. It's the connector on the sending unit. I clean the connection whenever I change the oil and filter.
