Btw you forgot step12. Unbolt the friggin trans and leave it in the car!!!

Quit being so critical jerk-***.
And yeah, why pull the tranny unless you plan on working on it?

In my opinion it is easier to yank it all out instead of halfing it at the flywheel.
No fussing with the bolts at/on the firewall, the in and out is so much smoother.
Once the engine and trans is rebuilt the halves can be assembled right on the bench, many of the peripherals can go back on too, and eveything can be tourqed to spec BEFORE it goes in the car.
How do you get a smooth sweep on bolts near the firewall with a torque wrench that has 3 extensions and a wobbler on the end of it?
You don't, and manuals rarely tell you how to do it, just that you should and to what spec. That is where experience helps out at, some of us have done this hundreds of times, others have only done it once.
Sharing this kind of info on the internet isn't the problem, it's the credibility of the provider that can raise questions.

With the FD though, you have to fiddle with the stupid power plant frame. That is a MAJOR pain in the *** if you don't have a lift. Even when I did have a lift, I could pull the engine w/o the tranny about an hour+ faster than if I could engine and tranny together.

That I didn't know/wasn't familiar with, I have done a couple fb's and a couple of fc's, only watched the fd's, and have done plenty piston engine swaps.
Granted it isn't always faster to do both, but at least doing a few each way, you can find which way gets it done faster between models.
