I have hks and love it. If you are worried about only being mild steel than you can wrap it with thermo-tec and spray it with high temp pain. I have to say after I put in the dp my under hood temps were noticebale with the hood closed!!!! Wait does that make sense? I mean the heat radiating off the hood was even very noticeable. Anyway I would reccomend it very easy install and great fit.

 

What about the Bonez down pipe? whats the word on them. . . also how well does the bonez DP with the highflow cat work?

 

I have the HKS and like it. No problems so far.

 

HKS is very high quality. The fitment is very very good, almost the best thing other than stock.



there is a coating on the pipe already, not necessery for high temp paint. wrapping is not recommand, the wrap traps moist, and makes pipe rust.



the under hood temp should not be worse, can't think of anything trapping more heat than stock precat. May be make a few heat shields... thats all i can think that would be different.

 

do a search for sinful7. IIRC, he bought a 'no-name' downpipe off of ebay. i wouldn't buy something just because of the name though.



it's basically all up to you. the pipe you can afford. but then again, more expensive isn't always better. it's just a pipe

 

here is some info with those "no name" downpipe on ebay.



1. doesn't fit well, the rear angle is off by 10%

2. the entry flange is thin

3. the ID of the entry flage is very very small

4. the studs don't line up perfectly, just slightly off



how do i know? I used to import them, and sell them... They are made in Taiwan.

A downpipe may be just a pipe but having had bad experiences with poorly make exhaust components on other cars I can tell you it is always worth it to spend more to get something you know will fit.

 

downpipe are downpipes if you ask me. If your worried about "Horsepower", then go single turbo....

 

I meant the temps were noticeable in a good way. How would putting a staight through design over a catylitic design increase heat? It wont. It increases flow which will remove the heat rather than retain it and filter it. And by the way you spray the thermo-tec after you wrap for the very purpose of repelling water. Besides unless you are planning on putting like 75k on the car I dont really think you would have to worry about the downpipe "rusting out". I have had my hks on for 2 years now and there is hardly a sign of any corrosion.
