if your car is stock, take the elbow off, and you can reach the coil packs from there, and you can reach down and reach the plugs...



4 nuts and losen 1 hose clamp, and pulling the wires off... and do everything backwards.

losing coolant ='s wet spark plugs. THAT is why it doesn't start. And yes, it will run great with a coolant leak once you finally get it started.



Just jack the car up and do the plugs from underneath the car. Much easier to reach IMO as long as you don't have BIG forearms.

Yes, I took a look at the engine over the weekend, again not much time to work with, so I didn't get to the plugs. I checked the fuel pump by listening to hear if it clicked on when I turned the car on. The fuel relay would click, but I couldn't hear the fuel pump click on or make any noise what so ever. Is the fuel pump super quiet? Or am I right and should I think about replacing that as well as the plugs? Are there any other tests I can do to tell if the pump is working?



Oh another thing, if the plugs are wet and I change them out, is there anything I should do to sort of dry out the sockets before I put in the new plugs? ei: Spray some sort of alcohol based cleaner and let it dry overnight? Maybe just take the air compressor and sort of blow out any wetness that may reside in there? Wad up a rag and try to dry it off with my finger?

pull the fuel pump relay or press the gas pedal the floor and hold it while you turn the engine over a few times (cranking) and it'll clear the fuel out.



the fuel pump is very quiet actually..... open the filler port and remove the cap and put your ear to it.. if you have decent hearing, you'll hear a lite hum with the pump running.

ok i will do that when i get home from work tonight. i also picked up a set of nkg spark plugs. all 9's. hopefully the new plugs will get it started up.

Here's a picture of the plugs. GROSS! So I replaced them, and the car still won't start. I'm starting to think it might be the fuel pump. With the new plugs, the car almost starts, it turns over for a split second, then seems like its not getting enough fuel and cuts out. Could my next feat be a new fuel pump? Hopefully! I just ordered an after market one from rx7store, its bigger with more fuel displacement. It will be good for later upgrades as well. I hope that works. Any other ideas other than fuel?

forgot to add..... do that with the spark plugs REMOVED. Also, unless you are running higher than normal boost and have quite a few mods going on with this car.... just 7's and 9's. 9's are just a colder plug that lowers the chance of detontation, it also makes the car slightly harder to start.

So should I go buy another set of plugs? Will the ones I just put in be ruined like the older ones? Or can I just pull them out and wipe them off? What should I use to clean them?

Check the spark on your wires also.

Yes they are wet, but they smell more like oil/coolant than gas. I tried disconnecting the fuel pump relay and cranking a couple times, then I tried holding the pedal to the floor and cranking a couple times. Car still didn't start. I will remove the plugs when I get home tonight, and try cranking the engine without the plugs, to drain whatever is in there. Should I go pick up 2 leading plugs? I have 4 new trailing plugs that I put in last night, but the only mods I have are exhaust, intake, and bov. It will probably be a harder start with the 9s, like Grey said earlier. Also are these new plugs going to be ruined if they are wet? Or is there something I can buy to clean them off with, like a plug cleaner spray or something of that nature?
