Cooling Fan Upgrade

I noticed this article on the series 8 rx-7 on a New Zealand site some time ago. Of particular interest is how one of the articles describes in detail the problems Mazda engineers noticed in the early 3rd gen RX-7s and how they attempted to correct them:

The whole fiasco just makes me want a 2002 Spirit R even more...sigh.

The front-end's opening areas have also been increased by factors of 2.1 for the radiator opening, 1.8 for the intercooler duct, 1.8 for the oil cooler, and 1.6 for the front brake cooling duct intake over the previous RX-7. The radiator's core depth has been increased to 27 mm (1.1 in.) from the previous one's 25 mm (1 in.). The 209 kW (280 bhp) engine had its fin-pitch changed from 1.1 mm (0.04 in.) to 1.3 mm (0.05 in.). Twin cooling fans' blades have also been increased, one from five to seven blades and the other four to five blades, while the high-speed electric motors' consumption has been changed from 160W to 120W

"Twin cooling fans' blades have also been increased, one from five to seven blades and the other four to five blades, while the high-speed electric motors' consumption has been changed from 160W to 120W"
...Then according to this article, the mazda Engineers replaced the 4 blade fan with a 5 blade fan....hmmm. Guess putting a 4 blade fan in place of a 5 blade fan is NOT ideal. I guess the ideal thing to do would be to swap the 4 blade for a 5 blade...
...tell Garfinkle to shove it...I'm going to trust the mazda Engineers and their access to CFM fan charts on this one.

lol
That's not my radiator. It's just a photo I found to show which FAL fan I was talking about. The smaller 10" fans fit, but they don't have nearly the airflow the 12" fans have.
It won't sit flat on the FD radiator because of all the pipes, etc.

nah, it's hopeless, you'd have to cut big chunks out of the fan housing for the pipes, etc. It would work if the housing it came with was smaller.
