So the search engine comes up with nothing on this subject,In your guys experience what is the best flowing lowest decibel exhaust with the cats removed. This can include resonated mid pipes, custom exhaust, or just combinations that you prefer. The problem is that the cops up here will single you out if you have the high pitched ricey sound but a low note is not as noticable to them. You can practically run a v8 with open headers and not get noticed. So before I make a purchase I want opinions of people who have used systems and liked or not liked them. All opinions are welcome.

Seems like there are about as many opinions on this as there are systems. But I'll give you my .02....

Currently I've got the GREDDY SP cat-back with a BONEZ Hi-Flo cat. Materials and contruction is very good and I LOVE the sound at idle and during acceleration. It's about as low tone as I've heard. Definitely not ricey. The down side is two-fold. It's got a nasty "drone" at highway cruising speed and visually it's definitely non-stock looking with that big-ass single tip.

I've added wrapping to my DP and some rubberized undercoat in the spare tire well and hatch floor which helped the drone quite a bit, but didn't eliminate it.

I've heard the RACING BEAT dual-tip and if I had the $$, I personally would go with that. Although I don't "think" it flows quite as well as my SP, and it doesn't sound as low and mean, it still sounds pretty good and looks very stock. Performance loss is probably marginal if at all. Plus, the materials and contruction look top notch too.

I'd say the racing beat is your best bet. I have a full 3" with the HKS Carbon-ti and it's louder than hell. Sure sounds sexy when it's opened up though! It was voted the sexiest engine sound at a car show last summer. Oh, and for the record I've never heard a GReddy exhaust note that I liked. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

quietest FD exhaust made to the best of my knowledge is the OLD Knightpsorts Dual exhaust. 2 presilencers, and 2 canister mufflers plumbed into the dual piping. I have one..... VERY quiet. but VERY heavy.

the Racing beat twin tip is still my favorite though.

Yeah, that post deserves to be deleted. He was asking what a good QUIET/helpful catback system would be.. Not what the most expensive, noisiest piece of crap muffler on the market is. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

The Racing Beat Dual get's great reviews with those who want a lower, pure sound without being obnoxious and simply "loud". The finish looks great, the dual pipe's look very "professional" vs. ricey.

I have an M2 Dual exhaust, which I am told is comparable. Similiar finish and sound. I can cruise @ 60mph and still talk to my friend in the car, it sounds great at idle and has a "non-weedwacker" scream up top.

I've seen/heard plenty of single (HUGE) tip exhausts on the FD and many are just too much for me.

Try M2 or RB Dual's https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

If you want quiet, stay away from the Greddy Evolution exhaust. I've got that with a MP and DP and the fucker is louder than hell. Hell, but not a Harley Davidson. Why do cops pull over import drivers and not hog riders for noise? One time I was getting gas and a Harley drove up, so GD loud that it hurt the baby's ears, she was covering them and crying...and no ticket for that bastard?

Thanks for all the input,so far it sounds like a presilenced mid pipe with a racing beat dual tip(the dual tip is a gorgeous looking system).Has anyone used the gotham racing presilenced mid or thier cat back?

Those are not quiet exhausts. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

ambassador_josh 02-22-2005 09:38 AM

just go with the RB dual tip exhaust. If you get pulled over for "aftermarket" exhaust on that one, you can claim its factory, off of the Mazdaspeed Protege.

supertpr25 02-22-2005 10:19 PM

I do not know much about exhaust but I bought a barely used Peter Farrell Supercars stainless system for Hmm, I think I paid $300.00, it looks like it could be stock if you did not know what you were looking at, like most cops.

It sounds great to me and is not loud, it passed the girlfriend test, she gets anoid easy by crap that hums and vibrates the entire car for no reason.

I do not know if others love it but I have not one complaint, it was even easier to install than a factory exhaust I bought a few years back

Oyea, not a lot of black build up all over the back of the car like some larger diameter pipes, and it just passed emissions

Motorcycles are exempt from "loud muffler" laws in many (all?) areas. Motorcycle lobbyists have been successful in excluding them under the guise of safety. I think we need a good lobby for drivers of small sports cars in these days of giant SUVs. Loud pipes might save our lives, too! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

racing beat, it sounds awsome when you open it up but it's nice and suttle at idle. i have it and i love it... looks sweet to. almost looks like stock exhaust with the twin tips, not like those coffee can mufflers...

CS Fd 03-04-2005 01:17 PM

I had an Apexi N1 on my Integra, and the same came on my FD when I bought it. It is a good inexpensive exhaust. Some people (my wife) say its a little loud, it doesn't bother me so I don't notice. It can be loud at off-throttle crusing, fairly quiet at idle though. I know the tip is a little bigger than some people like. I hear good things about HKS exhausts. They seem a little pricey, but the quality seems to be very good.

treceb 03-04-2005 02:00 PM

i have an HKS on my FD. i was told it didnt sound like a rotary. too quiet.

does anyone have any sound files of their cars, iv seen some spred around but most of the links dont work any more https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

widebody2 04-03-2005 09:39 PM

Man I have the RB dual and like it but even with that exhaust I feel like my car is so loud its a spectacle...every time I roll down my street as quitly as I can my neighbors are still grilling me like they hate my guts. I don't know how you guys deal with any of the louder ones like the apexi etc

GarageBoy 04-05-2005 09:51 PM

since they all have about the same power "gains", go with the rb duals. PFS is LOUD. Apexi N1 is just sterotypical rice can to many.

i like the apexi n1.... its not quiet tho

Il RX8 lI 09-22-2005 03:23 PM

I've got the N1 dual. Fun sound with plenty of backfiring with a 3 inch midpipe.

CletusFD3S 09-22-2005 03:45 PM

by apexi n1 i ment dual tip.... http://turboimport.com/catalog/rx7.htm

sweet7 09-23-2005 12:07 AM

Border Burnout. Haven't heard it yet, but rumor has it, its very very loud.

jspecracer7 09-25-2005 01:44 AM

JIC something...it's been awhile (4+ years) since I've owned it. With a Borla midpipe it sounded awesome. That's my all time favorite. 2nd Favorite is of course the Border burnout 90mm.

WolfpackFD3S 09-25-2005 10:55 PM

I vote for the RB duals, have them on my car and know of 2 other local guys with them on their cars. Another local guy has the PFS exhaust but after hearing the RB duals he fell in love and wants to get the RB exhaust. Like everyone else said the RB duals have a great deep purring sound in the low end and a nice roar while getting on the throttle.

has anyone ever tried to run duals on the 3rd gen like they do on the second gen.....like to 2 2 1/2" clean a simple mufflers...maybe two 3 1/2" single or dual tip...small can size kinda angled like on the 300zx...

ive never seen duals on an rx7 but wouldnt think the results would be very good... i had the hks hiper on my 90' 300zx and hated the look, it was cheap, flowed well, but looked too overdone for me, now i have some original trust TR exhaust complete with resonated midpipes..

as for the best 3rd gen exhaust i would go with the rb, or possibly the newer RSR exmag, the rsr is suposedly one of the quietest(which doesnt say much for an rx7) and looks very nice. I have the hks hiper on mine with straight 3 in midpipe and just like the z im sick of it, too race looking for a street car, too loud. ill prob end up with the rb or rsr. You can get plenty of power from a quieter exhaust without all the noise. just look at the 2005 911 turbo. Which i now have hehe... (by the way, the rx7 is still faster!) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif rx7

I am partial to the FEED, I had the SONIC HS-R for my FC, since then I have sold my FC and bought the FD. I am currently running the SONIC SR, but I maybe be selling it soon and upgrading to the SONIC Ti. The best way to describe the exhaust is it real simialr to the HKS, Apex (anything with a 5" tip) but has more mid tones since the tip is 4". From what my friends tell me that it sounds great at cruise and WOT etc, but I am always in the car, and it never sounds the same being in the car as beening a bystandard.

Here are a few pics I had.

jspecracer7 10-07-2005 03:17 PM

Can't really run true duals unless you get rid of the stock fuel tank.

7passu 10-08-2005 09:10 AM

well you can y around the tank....i have a full 4" exhaust on mine with the greddy muffler...down pipe and all...you can take a base ball and roll it all the way through my exhaust...and whats wierd is its quite until the external wastegate opens.....then its really loud! Everyone trips out how quite it is...you would think it would be loud...
