FWIW, this is definitely a more relaxed forum. Guys tend to have a good sense of humor and I enjoy it alot. But like it or hate it, the other forum is a great source of info.

Well, all I COULD for the time being was cap off the line coming off the motor (by the thermostat) that goes to that part of the AST, and then basically plug up the AST itself.
So I drive, wasn't too bad I guess....raced an STI from slow 1st gear till 3rd....owned him...feelin' good.
So I look at my litttle POS aftermarket temp gauge. It's reading 230F and my stock coolant temp gauge is uhh....up there, as well.
Stock temp gauge was over the fkin' 'H' at this point. Woooooooooow...the whole time I'm about ready to kill myself.

now, like others have said the stock fans don't even come on until 221F...and if your POS aftermarket gauge was reading 230F and your stock gauge was over the H mark...I think your POS aftermarket gauge is in fact a piece of ****. Maybe by dumb luck your motor is okay, and I hope that it is...but don't sugar coat the story over here

I didn't realize the motor was still in danger. I had let the car sit for a while after capping off the lines n' such, and temps looked good, so it SEEMED as though the car was going to be fine, for now.
I saw the STI, and yeah, my immaturity got the best of me, and I raced him. It was after that, I had pulled over, because the temp did reach 230F. I am like "****, I'm an idiot." and I pulled over. I fixed a small leak in the radiator coolant line that was releasing steam, and let her cool down, THEN babied her to the gas station, realizing my mistake....etc etc...
I explained the story in a retarded fashion on RX7club, and yeah, racing the STI in itself was retarded. I'm grateful that the motor seems to be allright, and yeah, I learned a valueable lesson.

Earlier in the night when I had to work with the vacuum lines comin' off the boost actuator, to finish the "Poor Man's Non-Sequential" setup, as to rid myself of my overboosting problem, I had disconnected that thick radiator line for easier access to the vacuum lines n' such.
Aparently the clamp wasn't clamped down where the previous indentions were, so during that part of the night, steam was seaping out from that area. Quick adjustment with some needle nose pliars, and the leak stopped. That was that. No hole or anything.
Scotch tape was my next guess, though. :P

me too. gunned it even on the autobahn with loose rad cap (my dad's fault!!) in 2002.
stock(!) needle right before H. and still strong after 10k kilometers.
