people have recorded the temp changes with letting the fans run after the cars off. Over one hundred degrees cooler with letting the fans run for a few mintues. Basically, it's a heatsoak defender.

yeah Van, the point isn't to cool the radiator, it's t keep a positive airflow into the engine bay after shut down. Let yours run sometime and put you hand back by the windsheild, you'll feel hot air being pumped out.

But I have a vented amemiya hood. So maybe that's why I won't need it?

 

You don't need it because you live in Japan and these cars are like 5 dollars there. But also, Americans are crazy heh.

 

i dont think a vented hood matter THAT much... to keep the coolant 100* cooler....

 

to do what rx7girl said, you have to pull the 15 amp fuse from the engine fuse box correct ? then you can turn your AC on without it coming on

 

The hood should help a bit by giving the hot air an easier outlet, but not as much as the fans.



For reference, my personal experience has been this; stock body, major rad ducting, no fans, my car would run around 92-95C. After shutdown, I would see up to 108C on the commander ten minutes later. With fan switch mod, I run around 75-85C (depending on how I drive), then lets say I shutdown with temps at 82C, ten minutes later I turn the key back on and water temp is around 68-70C. And keep in mind the water temp sensor is in the case, so running the fans does help cool the motor itself, not just the coolant in the radiator.

 

the fan mod really has NOTHING to do with keeping the coolant cool. The car isn't running.... no water is moving. It's to move fresher air into the engine bay and keep the engine and turbos from sitting there at rediculous temps. Yes, a vent hood makes a huge difference....a fan mounted to the underside of the hood blowing thru the vents would be the best solution, other than a EWP running after shutdown.
