Tell them to replace it then. If you're not trying to screw them, then an equal, fair replacement should be sufficient, right?

Yeah, thats what I'm planning on doing. I don't care if they fix my car or get me another.

I mean, I would prefer my FD personally, but I'd rather not loose out on money.

I will be contacting them today and see what they have to say.

Its just sad, I spent alot of time looking for a good condition FD and then this happens.

I just don't want to get screwed and have to spend more of my time and more of my money to get the same thing I had before.

Theres a reason why I pay insurance every 6 month and I want them to do their job, not try and screw me and make money.

I try and be reasonable to them and they just don't seem like they want to help out.

I'll keep trying to see what I can do and see what they say.

I didn't know too much about how to deal with insurance thats why I posted here.

I had actually thought my adjuster was trying her best to help me out, but I just can't believe my car was worth so little.

Thanks for the advice/info and the support guys... and gals

tell them to give you slightly LESS than the totaled car $$.....that way it does not get totalled, and you can get it fixed. however, some of the insc. companies will not re-evaluate a car or the $$ amount after a total has been applied.......good luck...

don't let them total it the car will then have a salvage title. I have just been through this with my ins company. I was run off the road by someone and the est. was over $10,000 so they were going to total the car. of course I did not want that. so what you have to do is find a shop someone that you know that will write you an estimate and say they agree to fix the car for just under what it will cost to total the car take that to the ins comp and they will write you a check. in my case their estimate was 10,something to fix the car so they say it is totaled they say my car is worth 12,200 I know I said bs. so minus the deductable they give me 11,700 then I can buy it back for 2500 ok well then I have a salvage title to try and get fixed. So they tell me if I can get and estimate for under 8600 which is what will total the car then they will pay to fix it. so I get an estimate for like 8525 and they write me a check and I keep the title clean and fix it myself for 1200.00

You need to go to the shop where its sitting and pull YOUR stuff out of the car....basicaly anything aftermarket.

Here is the way you do that, they are giving you book value which means they are not insuring your aftermarket parts. If you want to know for sure, ask them if they would have replaced those aftermarket parts had they been stolen. Ins wont even let you make a claim on non stock items when they are stolen unless you have special insurance to cover those spacific items. Basically, since they werent covering those items then you should be able to remove them from the car. I always have been able to. Then you can turn around and use them for the next car or sell them for the money.

Also, here is the next thing. I was reading on the other forum the a few weeks ago where a guy got quite a lot more money than book by showing the sales price of 3 similar 3rd gens. They took the average of those and gave him that as a settlement. You might try that. Seems like the insurace was able to do that because in some cases they can pay based on replacement value instead of book value if its not the same amount. Know how hard you'd have to fight to have that done is anyones guess but I'd imagine a decent lawyer could help push that thru.

if your car is totaled they will cut you a check for what you said like $11,800 ? you then have the option too but it back from the insurance company for like 10% or 15% of what they gave you, you could buy the car back for about $2000 give or take maybe 1500 depending on the insurance company and you could use the 9000 too fix it......... that is the way it works you don`t need a lawyer and this is an option for everyone, its just a matter of how much they will sell it too you for after they cut you a check its NOT alot its the best way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
