Hi All,



Recently my ABS light came on and has remained on for over a month now, I never realized how much I relied on it until going a bit too fast and it wouldn't stop as I was used to! Anyway my car is a 1997 Series 7 Type-RS FD3S. Has 117k on the clock & I use it daily (my current A to B car).



Yesterday the ABS light went off again for about 20 minutes, I quickly turned the car off and back on to see if that would make a difference but the light stayed off after restarting the car, I thought it had mysteriously fixed itself. I slammed the brakes and sure enough I felt the resistance on the pedal and the car didn't lock up! but as I pulled in to my street the light came back on, I slammed the brakes again to test and sure enough the ABS was no longer working and the car slid/locked up.



The only thing that I've had done to the car recently was the 2 front shocks replaced (one was leaking). I've had both front wheels off to check and everything is definitely connected as it should be (to the eye). I've tried removing the fuses, but this made no difference. I also got a friends diagnostic machine and plugged it in to the diagnostic thing under the bonnet, ran a test for the ABS and it returned no fault (probably not the best testing machine in the world!). I have an APEXI power FC ECU so not sure if that was affecting the diagnostic machine.



I also think one of my back brake pads is due to be replaced - but the ABS doesn't have a sensor to pick up on this that would stop the ABS from functioning would it?



I had a read through some of the other ABS threads, but none seem to relate to my issue. If anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

ABS does not make the FD stop any faster..

if particularly goin too fast and your wheels lock up.. ABS wont help you overcome momentum..

check your sensors.. could be faulty... since havin been the fronts for some work.. check those first

hi, i think your best bet will be old fashoned back to basic checks, first you need a multi meter on ohms and check the resistance on all four sensors with the plugs disconnected, all four should obviously be in the same area, they should also generate a voltage if you connect your multi meter to the sensor on voltage setting and spin the wheel, again if you do all four it will be more obvious if one isnt produing a correct voltage. if they all seem ok its wire continuaty checking between the abs sensors and abs unit, again disconnected. good luck jon.
