Thumbs up

Hey I'm thinking about purchasing a 93 Rx7, the owner said its compression is not good and doesn't run so well. He says they told him it was his Apex Seals. Could I with my mechanic change the apex seals in it, or would we need a special tool or something. Also what else should i change on the car such as vacumm lines etc. Thanks

Sam

Well I think you should do some reading. Your talking about rebuilding your engine and you don't sound like you know what your getting into. It is plausable that after doing your homework that you could complete the task of an engine overhaul. If you are mechanically inclinded that is.

Apex seals have the task of sealing the combustion chambers. You have to completly disassemble the engine to get to them. i.e. You will need the rebuild o-ring and gasket kit. Your talking about $600 for a cheap one. Then your gonna need about $200=$300 for the engine install gasket set. Not to mention all the parts that may need replacing. Needless to say replacing your apex seals isn't a small job. Most likely its your seal springs that are going out anyway. Apex seal don't wear out ..they break.

Go to these sites and do some reading. There are alot of things you might find interesting in here. Good luck..

FYI I bought a new factory set of apex seals and the springs from Malloy Mazda in Woodbrige Va. My cost was $279.

They ship parts cross country all the time also. You want to speak with Ray when you call. He owns a Fd and really is competative on pricing.

I would suggest to anyone to call him if you need a stock part.
