I cleaned the sleeves spot to. I don't understand how hard it is to blast that **** with carb cleaner and use a flash light to check for gunk.

Well thank you for telling me how to maintain my vehicle

The previous owner obviously didn't treat the car well, there is buildup all over the place because they didn't rev it up enough. I was doing some basic work, and among other things, cleaned the sleeves. I didn't have the time or energy at that point to dig around in my block, trying to remove 12 years of buildup, without getting chunks breaking loose and droping into the rotor housing. One day I will get in there, but for the time being, pulling the sleeves was the best option.

Do I need to justify my decision any more to you?

And how exactly did you fit your head down there to look into the ports???

Well most piston world people don't know that reving up every now and then is a good thing.

Only cleaning the sleeves is like getting new brake pads but not turning your old rotors or getting new ones. Its a half assed job.

Your option was the simplest and easiest not the best. Hopefully you will go back and clean everything but right now you just took the easy way out.

No you don't need to justify anything I am just letting you know that you could do better. WAY BETTER

I am very skinny and I run bare block so I don't have crap in the way. I can basically stand inside the engien bay if I am carefull about where I place my feet. I also used a flash light and a small mirror that is around 2 dollars at any automotive store.

GOOD carb cleaner will not make it chip it will just disolve that crap. and it would be a bit hard to fall into the engine. I only took around 15-20 min on each port with all the tools I mentioned and it was spotless and they both work perfect I can now feel the tugs when they open.

Santiago

PS- anyways its your car so you don't have to listen to me. Just take what I say and the rest say into considreation.

i took the sleeves out of the gxl that i had and i never noticed a drop in power in low rpm band.

intake and mid pipe might have helped out with that, but the car was still very driveable at low rpm's , and the only difference i noticed was a smoother pull in gear rather than the mentioned tug when the ports normally open.

performance was identical.

if they work leave em if they dont pull them.

or you can do whatever the hell you want cause its your car.

Santiago, do you have inserts in your sleeves? I think you said you had true duals too.. where are you getting the backpressure from (one rotor or both)?

I feel like a broken record but I cleaned EVERYTHING, swapped LIM's and actuators, blah blah. One of mine will actually open near 6k with the actuators on but thats it. I am wondering if the added weight of the inserts makes it need more backpressure now or if maybe one of the sleeves is not perfectly round anymore since the install.

Either way, I think the stock s4 backpressure activation is unpredictable and sucks. I still would like to find another way without the air pump method.
