Rob x-7 01-31-2009 07:32 AM

so whats your winter projects?

mine is to put the s5 conversion on my car. Im not doing it to be a "me too" car, im doing it because I have had this car the same way for so long that I need to change it up a bit, and because I have had the parts laying around for a few years so why not.

Im going to remove the doors and trunk and paint the jambs- they are original paint. While the doors are off im going to remove the chip guard from the lower portion of the doors.

Put a aluminum hood on the car- I currently have a steel hood due to the cost of a aluminum hood when I painted the car a million years ago. I have TII side skirts for it, and im going to modify the S5 front bumper a little bit.

Im also going to put coupe tailights on the car, being that I will lose the keyhole I can run a emergency trunk release cable out the bottom of the car should the one in the car fail.

Lastly new rims and tires, well not NEW rims, but new to me, 3piece volk gtu meshies that I am going to take apart and restore, give the car that era correct look ( unless I come up with a set of Aegis wheels instead )

Lastly I got some sweet mazdaspeed leather seats with custom slides/brackets, while I have the seats out I might put the black carpet that I have had sitting around for like 5 years in the car. I also have black s5 door panels but im not sure if that will look good with the rest of my gray interior.

I got to get to business at work and get some things done, but hopefully I can sneak the car into the shop and get cracking on somethings so I can have the car all ready to go when the warm weather comes around, right now I have not started the car in over a month.

jwteknix 01-31-2009 08:33 AM

tune, fix heater, mount seats and put a harness bar in some how other then that nothing realy else I'm poor

1988RedT2 01-31-2009 09:39 AM

I've ordered a bunch of stuff to freshen up the C30 Dooley. Got the dash. Still waiting on the headliner, seat upholstery, and carpeted floor mats. I think I'll have a friend spray at least the hood in the Spring. The clearcoat is shot to hell.

Got a set of stainless wheel simulators to cover up the white-painted steelies, too!

As for the RX-7, I might get around to fiddling with my fuel map, maybe even put in new motor mounts.

RONIN FC 01-31-2009 10:02 AM

I need to get the Rx-7 into the body shop to have the FC2000 knockoff and the (not so wide) 30mm "widebody" fenders and quarters painted. I need to get crackin on the brackets to mount the Hella lamps before that can happen.

jwteknix 01-31-2009 10:08 AM

yeah one day I'll get to that body kit sitting in my garage too lol

Rob x-7 01-31-2009 10:45 AM

I almost forgot I have to replace my wolf with the newer version I have, but I think thats going to wait until I redo the fuel system and tune it for E85. Will be able to switch between a super unleaded map and a E85 map just incase I get stuck somewhere with no E85.

fc3s4utnv 01-31-2009 09:47 PM

Rx7

Finish the S5 conversion

Get the turbo installed, plumed, working, and tuned

Replace the rear subframe, with TII diff and axles

and maybe if the funds become available.... Roll Cage

Mx-3

Fix the stupid stuff that is wrong with the KLZE swap, replace timing belt/water pump.

tranny rebuild

and gather some more parts to do the turbo on it, already have the turbo manifolds.

RONIN FC 02-01-2009 07:12 AM

KLZE in a Mx-3 sounds like a fun ride.

No sir, not my sisters, its my wifes car.

defprun 02-02-2009 05:30 AM

When I actually get some progress of my project I'll post it up... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.gif

Rob x-7 02-02-2009 09:06 AM

be a great car for the wife then, I was going to say its a little femine looking for a daily for a man

defprun 02-02-2009 08:53 PM

Same goes with Pontiac Sunflowers around here but it doesnt stop men from "flexing" them.

fc3s4utnv 02-02-2009 09:00 PM

That car has flexed on more gt's with bolt ons and stock lsjauns than I can count. It throughs everyone off when they see it because they dont expect it, and most people dont have a clue what kind of car it is.

Nateb123 02-02-2009 11:03 PM

Get the emissions system set up to pass, which will hopefully just require replacing the air pump (but likely will take more). Fix the sunroof. Finish taking out the carpeting, dash, seats, etc. cleaning it and putting it all back together. Then sell it. Hope to have it gone this month. Need the money for school and I can sell it for triple what I paid for it so why the hell not? When I get a badass job I'll buy a TII, FD or RX8 anyways. Can't give up the love of rotaries now that I'm hooked. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

thecrow 02-03-2009 07:54 AM

get an exhaust on my car. put my forza seat in. get it ready to daily in the spring

fc3s4utnv 02-04-2009 09:24 PM

Got more work to do now, tow pig needs some cosmetic upgrades!

1988RedT2 02-05-2009 08:38 AM

Here's my truck with the high-dolla made in China polished stainless steel "wheel simulators". They are teh hotness, no?

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

Rob x-7 02-05-2009 11:39 AM

I have those on one of my step vans, they are nice, I put moons on the other van, its hot- look like its going to the salt flats!

teknics 02-11-2009 05:37 PM

http://www.machiii.net/images/wheels/volk/big_GT-U.jpg

Im not so sure you can/should take those apart https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif I always thought the center and the rim were assembled at different temps... arg, i forget what that process is called...

Whatever, Just dont ruin some nice wheels.

Rob x-7 02-11-2009 07:04 PM

it would not be my first set of 3 piece wheels I have taken apart, someone put them together so they can be taken apart.

I bought the seats off a forum member, I dont think they are actuall mazdaspeed seats but they seem pretty good, have not installed them yet. One seat is brand new never installed, the other looks brand new, not a mark in it, came with brackets and sliders too.

Rob x-7 02-16-2009 01:56 PM

painted some of my s5 parts, I have brand new fenders and a aluiminum hood to do, while Im at it im going to take the doors off and spray the jambs.

I painted the rest of the s5 molding set just incase I end up not liking the TII skirts on the car.

those look pretty good rob

Rob x-7 02-16-2009 05:24 PM

some of me regrets not painting the engine bay while the motor was out, but I think it looks pretty good for 1988 paint.

jwteknix 02-16-2009 05:30 PM

nice work rob. I have those same seats in cloth, theyre nice. What wheels are those? theyre nice too lol

Got the se out and about today, shes out of storage for now, so fixed some minor things and cleaned it up alittle

Tomorrow I hope to get the oil changed, and do a few other little bs things done, also gotta call enzo to finish tuning this thing.

thats is all

Rob x-7 02-16-2009 06:03 PM

volk gtu

Rob x-7 02-21-2009 03:39 PM

sanded and polished all the parts that I painted earlier in the week, this way the orange peel, or rather lack of, will match the rest of the paint on the car. I polished them and stored them safely in the coupe for now as I cant put them on until I get the rest of the car done.

Sanded my aluminum hood that I got to replace the steel hood, I guess I went full circle with the car now, back when I originally painted the car I could not afford a new alum. hood or find a used one, so I put a brand new steel hood on, now its time to go back to aluminum. Im going to cycle this in my friends spray booth so that the primer really gets a chance to cycle hot and cold, block sand it, and re-prime it, block sand it again then paint it.

I also sanded my new fenders, they come with e-coat on them, which you can just scuff and paint right over, but I chose to prime them so that the whole car is refinished identical.

Also modified my front bumper, I used structural urethane to adhere another piece of bumper behind the cut outs, this doubled that area up and will prevent it from warping later on. Cut out some of the lower part as well, I have some really nice stainless steel mesh that I might put in the opening, but I will decide that when I put it on the car after its painted.

Im going to have to put things on a hold for a week or so as I have a big job coming in the shop so I wont have the room to have my junk sitting around, got to pay the bills first- play second. I think the next thing I will do is remove my doors to get rid of the chip guard, and while they are off spray the jambs.

I used DuPont Uro prime as primer, its a urethane primer and its what I originally primed the car with, super stuff.

I ended up finding a set of brand new BBS RS-GT wheels on the club, I had gone to buy those wheels over the summer and tire rack had raised the price OVERNIGHT by almost $300 per wheel, so of course I did not buy them.

Now this set comes up local to me as well, supposed to pick them up Thursday.

If anyone wants the Volks let me know!

RicerJ 02-24-2009 08:51 PM

damn nice rims there lucky you finding stuff local

fc3s4utnv 02-24-2009 09:56 PM

Im in the market for some new rollers, give me a price and what is the size offset?

Rob x-7 02-25-2009 07:11 AM

the volks are 17x8 , I believe 35 offset.

they can be used as-is, but I bought them to refinish them, I did not like any colors being sold, so that being said they require some freshing up.

fc3s4utnv 02-25-2009 07:00 PM

Sooo what kind of price tag are we looking at?

Rob x-7 02-25-2009 07:07 PM

I have listed the volks in the classifieds, they are in better shape then I thought, lol

Cheers! 02-25-2009 10:33 PM

Damn rob... all those shiny parts are blinding me. You should've said "reduce monitor brightness before opening thread", or put on sunglasses

Rob x-7 02-26-2009 09:46 PM

I picked the wheels up tonight, man they are sexy.

Starting to get excited for the new look for the vert.

RicerJ 02-26-2009 11:49 PM
