will front subframe spacers hurt anything?

Granny's speed shop says:

Subframe Shimming...1/2" thick spacers can be installed between the RX-7 chassis and the stock RX-7 front subframe. The net effect is that the entire engine and steering rack are lowered in relation to the body, which increases hood clearance. The steering rack is lowered along with the lower control arm's inner pivot points. This is much preferred over simply lowering the steering rack and engine only, which would create a nasty bump-steer situation. Lowering the entire subframe minimizes any ill effects. This modification has no effect whatsoever on ride height due to the RX-7's strut style front suspension geometry.


Is this ok to do? Will it hurt anything?

trying to picture it in my head, but its essentially like putting lowering springs in, geometry wise. although the ride height prolly doesnt change.

Its fine Im getting ready to do mine, all it does is space the frame away from the subframe so the the engine cradle with sit lower. What motor are you putting in? 302, 351?

This is all crazy, because I honestly don't really know what I'm doing. The "instructions" on granny's speed shop site are very hard to follow, and I don't know what's applicable to me (don't know if the instructions are for EFI or carb). The site also mentions:



Air Conditioning Compressor...

...Option #1- Ford AC compressor... in some cases such as the EFI engines, it is not practical to adapt the RX-7 compressor. In these cases, the Ford OEM compressor is used as long as it's mounting location is compatible.


But I'm not using EFI, and it doesn't mention how to adapt the a/c compressor, which I would love to be able to do.



I think I'll just do what I can to install the motor and such, then remove anything else I don't need (various wiring and such). I just need to get the car rolling.

yeah it gets vauge cause not all the intstalls are the same...



bascially the way the ac stuff works, is that the rx7 compressor prolly wont bolt to the ford motor. the ford compressor fits on the engine, but then the lines/fittings are prollly different from mazda. its not too bad to take the mazda line and the ford line, and make one that works though.

That's what my plan was, until I read that on their site. I currently have WTB ads locally for a ford compressor.
