Who Knows About Brakes?
#1
Well, I was leaving my parent's house last night and everything seemed fine. I got about a block away and the car started to slow down and the engine was bogging down trying to work too hard. Nothing wrong with the engine.
Turns out the brakes seized closed against the rotors and the car would not move. There was absolutely no play in the brake pedal....meaning, I could not push the pedal at all. It would not move.
I don't think I am going to try to fix this myself just because I do not have the time right now but I am curious as to what the problem may be and since I know nothing about brakes, I thought I would ask the experts.
Any ideas as to what may be going on?
Let me add...the brake reservoir is filled to the proper level and there seems to be no leaks.

This is a strange failure.
I suspect the brake booster servo valve.
To test, pull the vacuum hose off the brake booster & plug the open end of the hose.
Then see if the brakes work.
They will feel really stiff without the vacuum boost, but should work.

I think I agree with you Sureshot. I just did not have the time to take care of the problem myself so I am waiting for the shop to get back with me.
I had a couple of other things I am having them take care fo so that is probably why I have not heard back from them.
I will post the results when I get them.

Well, my car is done.
Here's the deal....
Needed a new master cylinder, new front calipers, new brake pads. Headlights rewired (that was just an added bonus).
I am lucky that the brakes froze up and didn't do the opposite.

Got the car back this morning and the brakes feel better than they did coming off the showroom floor.
Actually that was 17 years ago when I took the car off the showroom floor and I really do not remember but I just like saying that.....
They really feel good. Stop on a dime now.
