What Is This In My Engine

There is this little diamond shaped thing in my engin right next to my boost sensor. I think it has an R on one side and an L on the other, with a flat head screw in the middle. What is it and what does it do? Mabe if you need me to I can take a pic, if you dont know what i mean.

Its the idle mixture adjustment screw. It does just what it sounds like, changes the air fuel mixture at idle. There are instructions on how to adjust it in the fsm.

which way did you turn it? on top of the TB you should have an AAS, air adjust screw, which should adjust your idle speed. On your idle mixture screw, there is usually a bit of adhesive stuck down to avoid tampering. Did you remove it to get down there? If yes, then I dont know what you should do; I dont know if you could just swap it with a junked and unadjusted unit or if you could re-tune your car on a dyno with a wideband and lots of $$$. I'd look for a junkyard replacement.

Back in the day early 911’s came with a pair of triple throat carbs. Occasionally we’d get some enlightened individual come by and say, “I turned a screw and now the car runs like crap. I turned it back and it still runs like crap” Couple of hundred dollars and one tune up later he'd be as good as new. Even better than new because he had just learned to keep his hands off stuff he didn’t understand.
Here’s how to fix your car:
1) set the initial set coupler
2) adjust the TPS
3) set the idle at 750 RPM
4) adjust the variable resistor so that the idle is at it’s highest point
5) adjust the idle back down to 750 RPM
6) turn the variable resistor counterclockwise until the idle drops down to 730 RPM, and then turn it clockwise until it comes back to 750 RPM
Post back and let us know whether you had to lean it out, or richen the mixture. I'm betting it was running too rich.

How the hell can a person manually adjust the TPS? @_@
Some days my idle is perfect at like 800, and sometimes it revs itself between 1,500-1,700 constantly. Even if I am stopped and let off the clutch as if I were going to let it grab, it goes right back up. WTF eh?
