Hi i hope someone can help me with this, i'v got an 86 6 port 13B which is struggling to get past 3800rpm i think i might have narrowed it down to the secondary fuel injectors.



My question is if i convert to a weber 48IDA how will i run the ignition the engine has been put into another car and as yet i have not rewired in the ECU and would prefer not to if possible. Can i run a standard dizzy with an advance curve and points or are these useless/unavailable?



It needs to be a fairly cheap option which is why i'm moving away from an aftermarket ECU from Haltech or similar.

12a dizzy is your friend.



Rework it for Direct Fire, use an MSD 6A, and get some good coils.

 

That sounds like a good solution can you explain to me in more detail how to modify the dizzy, and will it bolt straight to the engine with no mods.

The dizzy drops right in where the CAS is now. As far as modifying it goes, you can modify it for direct fire. Here is a thread on how to do that->linky

 

I was reading on one of those links that a second gen 86 car shouldn't have a distributer but just a crank angle sensor with a little black cover over it.



Like this although obviously this is not a standard engine i couldn't find a better pic.







My car seems to have a distributer and two seperate coils, from what i can see the dizzy is electronic rather than points. Does this mean its already been changed or does it vary between model or where the car is sold.



This is my engine below, sorry the coils aren't at my house at the moment so i can't get a pic of them as well.







Does this mean i need another dizzy or not and do you think the engines been altered at some point.

Where do you live? Some European S4's came with the dizzy factory. You should be good.

Good skills mate, yea the car is in the UK and the engines in a Talbot Sunbeam, by the way the engine bay isn't that dirty any more its all had a respray in vauxhall glacier white.



Does this mean i'm basically running a standard electronic ignition and the ECU is not required to make it work, or does the ECU still control the advance and retard. As you can see from the picture, and you probably already know theres quite a few wires going into the dizzy are these all just going to the coils and earth or something else, i haven't had a chance to trace them back through the loom yet.

Well the main wires are obviously the spark plug wires and coil wires. The timing advance/retard is controlled by vacuum (you can see the bells in the pic) The other wires (small) are for the ignitors in the distributor. Now there are ways to modify it so that you only use the dizzy for two plugs are the other are Direct Fire. Also you can 'lock' the dizzy so the timing doesn't chhange.
