ima keep this one short and sweet... what should i do to my car to get about 275 hp at the wheels around 5-7K RPMS? its an 87 T2 with the JDM motor and trans. about what kind of 1/8-1/4 miles times would i expect with 275 hp?

1Revvin7 06-11-2004 03:33 AM

14psi

BigTurbo74 06-11-2004 03:51 AM

hard to do with stock ports, like revvin said, around 14 psi on stock turbo with all supporting mods... times will depend on your driving skill, tires, and weight of your car...

NCTII87 06-11-2004 09:11 AM

well, half way there- what are the supporting mods? will i have to worry about the spike **** if i use the stock turbo? its an S4...

You will need more fuel than stock. Your wastegate is something to worry about. You can prolly have a machiene shop put a flanged pipe and a small tial WG on the turbo.

Based on my trap speed and the approximate weight of my car, I'm putting "around" 250 to the wheels right now. See my sig for mods. I'm running 9 psi on the S4 hybrid I have now with stock injectors and an ND pump.

I'm putting a Haltech on my car in the next couple weeks, along with bigger secondaries. I figure I'll tune for around 12 psi. Don't want to push this turbo beyond that.

A little ways down the road, I figure to upgrade the turbo to a T-04.

we made 225rwhp with a stock hybrid turbo on the black t2 at less than 7psi, same turbo made 265rwhp@9psi on a ported 13bt.....

id say you need a hybrid turbo, larger secondary injectors (the black t2 is 4x550, but we're gonna max it out when we figure out how to get more boost), 3" exhaust and about 12-14psi

do you want 275 hp to the wheels or at the engine?

i'm with this guy in terms of numbers. my best 1/4 time before i added an MBC was 14.03 sec at 102 mph, and i weighed in at 2710 lbs without me in the car. since i've added an MBC, my 1/8 times dropped 1/10 of a second, so my 1/4 times should be in the high 13's. i should also have 250 hp or so at the wheels.

my upgrades:

3" complete racing beat exhaust w/FCD

engine rebuild with street port

custom cold air intake

MBC set at 8 psi, creeping up to 10 psi in 3rd above 5k rpm

walbro 255 high pressure fuel pump

other stuff i might have forgotten. click my link below for more info.

my main recommendation, other than what's listed above, is a front mounted intercooler. my stock TMIC acts like a heat sink at the drag strip, absorbing all engine heat as i wait in line. my first few runs are the best after my tires warm up, but after that, the IC starts getting hot and my 1/4 time drop by 0.3 - 0.4 seconds.

if you want consistent power, go with a custom FMIC or a good intercooler sprayer to keep it cool. or both. that will also allow you to safely turn up the boost if you do any fuel and boost upgrades.

H-trim compressor upgrade, if you want a "cheap" compressor upgrade

fuel upgrades

GReddy V-spec FMIC kit

big exhaust

Stand-alone EMS would be nice.

Ported and rebuit motor would be nice.

We recently tuned an H-trim compressor upgrade using an Haltech E6K, and it was running around the power levels you're shooting for. As a cheap option on the FMIC, two stock IC's were cut and welded together. Fuel upgrades consisted of a pair 'o 1600's in the secondaries and a Walbro 255lph high-pressure fuel pump. I wouldn't be surprised this hit 300 at the wheels. The car is an FC3S Pro Stage II ported block that's been rebuilt with new Mazda OEM stock 2-piece apex seals.

At the same time, we got to tune a 60-1 compressor upgrade on a stock or very mildly ported block (unknown work on that engine) with an E6K (GReddy V-spec, 1600 secondaries, Walbro 255lph HP fuel pump), and the H-trim was still slightly stronger.

You can get cheap on several items, but don't expect everything to last too long.
