I usually port the wastegate slightly bigger than the door. just barely edge to edge. Still, this way sometimes creep on me. (I have a Hybrid turbo on my T2)

on FD, I take the whole door off, and weld (heliarc) a much bigger one. (slightly bigger than a quarter) and port that thing as big as possible.
