Other suggestions people have told me to check are:

-Driveshaft (u joint binding/seizing up?) causing the trans shaft to move around and the seal to not be abel to accomedate it. I'm suddenly getting a strange squeeking sound that is not related to suspension at times...

-Main front and rear bearings out of tolerance inside transmission...

Did that car ever have a driveshaft problem?

If you have a bound u-joint you'd notice that more than seal leaks, that's for damn sure... Mad vibration that increases with speed..

One time event. - wow.

Something had to create a lot of heat to outgas enough vapor to overcome the vent & push oil out good seals.

Maybe a bearing seized or jammed with debris, then broke free after a few seconds.

When idling in neutral, does the whirring of the gears & bearings sound normal?

there is definitly a slight whine noise until the tranny warms up

I'd drain it soon, clean the drain plug, refill with synthetic gear oil and hope for the best..

Yep that's the plan. I found out the U joints on teh driveshaft have play. I picked up a used TII driveshaft in good overall condition. Cleaned up the rust and painted it with POR15. Will rebuild my old drive shaft with new u JOints shortly.

I"m awaiting parts to arrive at my house. I don't know if I can finish the car in 1 evening

The toughest part of swapping the driveshaft is the exhaust bolts, unless you have a single muffler.

oooOOOoooo the blingness

Damn this is a quality peice.

Spec Stage 3 + Spec billet aluminum flywheel (i have a feeling it's a fidanza flywheel aka racing beat, which also uses them as a supplier)

The hardest part is reinstalling the tranny by yourself. If you have difficulties with exhaust bolts you need to reassess your abilities and perhaps pay someone to do the work for u.
