If anyone is wondering how to change the breather out on the tranny it is simply a very tight tolerance fit.
Anyhoot... I took the old breather out... it wasn't clogged!!!! WTF? So what can cause oil to shoot out of hte front and rear main trans seals? What happens when you overfill a tranny, where would all the excess oil go? If i had overfilled it two years ago it would have only been over by a very very small amount as I just pumped oil into thr tranny until it dripped out of the fill hole.... So what do I check now? |
All moving part seals are normal wear parts.
You seem to be in denial that you seals may simply be worn out. Alternatives to replacing the seals: 1) Top up the gear oil periodically. 2) Park only on level ground. 3) Park over pre-existing oil spots, so yours won't show. 4) Don't park in billionaires driveways (their cars don’t leak) 5) Carry a drip tray where ever you go. |
some how i have a hard time believing the trans oil seals wore out in 11,000 kms (~7000 miles) and two years of age. I replaced them when I changed my clutch 2 years ago. Along with the rear main engine oil seal. The tranny does not drip transmission fluid. It was a one time event when oil sprayed out of the front and rear of the tranny. |
Did the tranny possibly overheat? That could have damaged the seals. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Did you install them? Who installed them? Are they factory mazda parts or el-cheap-o seals? huh? HUH?
I installed them and I only use mazda parts on the rx7 |
well thats your problem right there https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |
Are you sure you followed procedues properly?
Not to offend you, but I've screwed up parts before not putting them in properly.. People make mistakes |

he onlt put 11000 km's on it so it could take 2 years to show up.
Other suggestions people have told me to check are: -Driveshaft (u joint binding/seizing up?) causing the trans shaft to move around and the seal to not be abel to accomedate it. I'm suddenly getting a strange squeeking sound that is not related to suspension at times... -Main front and rear bearings out of tolerance inside transmission... |
Did that car ever have a driveshaft problem?
If you have a bound u-joint you'd notice that more than seal leaks, that's for damn sure... Mad vibration that increases with speed.. |
One time event. - wow.
Something had to create a lot of heat to outgas enough vapor to overcome the vent & push oil out good seals. Maybe a bearing seized or jammed with debris, then broke free after a few seconds. When idling in neutral, does the whirring of the gears & bearings sound normal? |

I'd drain it soon, clean the drain plug, refill with synthetic gear oil and hope for the best..
Yep that's the plan. I found out the U joints on teh driveshaft have play. I picked up a used TII driveshaft in good overall condition. Cleaned up the rust and painted it with POR15. Will rebuild my old drive shaft with new u JOints shortly. I"m awaiting parts to arrive at my house. I don't know if I can finish the car in 1 evening |
The toughest part of swapping the driveshaft is the exhaust bolts, unless you have a single muffler.
|
oooOOOoooo the blingness
Damn this is a quality peice. Spec Stage 3 + Spec billet aluminum flywheel (i have a feeling it's a fidanza flywheel aka racing beat, which also uses them as a supplier) |
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif The hardest part is reinstalling the tranny by yourself. If you have difficulties with exhaust bolts you need to reassess your abilities and perhaps pay someone to do the work for u. |

Jason are you sure the seals are in the right way?
They only going in 1 way I think. I followed the FSM. |
Just a note - check the T/O bearing to make sure the inner & outer parts are concentric.
Mine looked like this - not cool. http://208.62.166.66:82/guest/pics/9...0bearing18.JPG |
The seals WILL go in either way, but, c'mon guys! Jason isn't THAT dumb!
