ok ive heard this faint ticking noide from inside my car. its a 88 gxl with all available options, 5 speed if this helps out any. anyways i couldnt figure out where the noise was coming from under the hood. i finally found it today and its my rear port actuator. when the car is idling the control arm on the actuator looks like its only moving about a 16th to 32nd of an inch except its moving very fast and ticking. is this normal? should i replace the actuator? the ticking noise is very noticle. when i shut her off and push the control rod in on the actuator its a fluid movement and doesnt stick or anything it just moves very rapidly and ticks when idling? anyone help me out here? thanks for the replies.later

I think I know what your talking about. Mine did that to because its just a lil loose. You mean the black metal that goes from the actuator to the bar the opens the port? f it s that i wouldn't worrie about it.

I've also noticed that ticking sounds a few times. It's the link between the actuator and the port valve as RotaryBoy88 just said. Maybe you could try to put some heavy oil on this link if you can't stand it any longer. It is due to backpressure pulses. It happens at idle only.
