Sorry reted u must have the wrong thread. anyways, all the people who I have talked to who has a street port say their idle was higher than stock. even the mechanic who ported it said it would idle higher than normal. I dont think nothing is wrong, or needs to be adjusted, it was professionally installed and tuned. I did not set my redline to any specific rpm. It makes its most hp (240) at 9k. I'm sure the redlines change with different turbos. thx for ur help i already know what turbo i will get. (60-1)

On what turbo did you make peak hp @ 9k? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

and trust us there are literally hundreds of guys on here with ported motors who's cars idle at 750 rpms...

RETed 04-19-2004 11:33 PM

I'm talking about these statements...

And that turbo will make how much hp @ what boost? is it good for high revving? My engine redlines at 9k
Why would you want to rev that high?

Are you making power at that RPM?

Do you have the "necessary mods" to run RPMs that high?

I forgot to mention that is does have a big street port. She idles at 1200rpm. that is kinda why she has a high redline.
Can you explain to me how idle RPM affects redline RPM?

I don't understand what you're trying to say.

I am kinda ignorant when it comes to turbochargers and such, because I have drifted an ae86 for a couple years. thanks for the help
What motor?

What cams?

Headwork?

What kinda header?

Negative roll blocks?

What kinda suspension?

You mention you were "ignorant", but it sounds like you're telling all of us we don't know what we are talking about...WTF?

Ok well sorry guys, although i do have my head up my ass I would rather listen to a certified mechanic than some guys on the internet. REted: I simply said my engine is capable of a 9k redline I never said I want to redline 9k 24/7. Idle RPM doesnt affect redline, that's why they were different sentences. Also I wasnt saying u dont know nothing, whered u get that from?

Midnightdriver 04-20-2004 05:56 PM

well I'm not going to really get into a pissing match. I will say that I have run into many cert. mechanics that don't know much about a rotary, and think that they die after 60k miles. Hell mazda dealers have cert. mechanics working in there shop and i've ran into some of them that don't know much about a product sold by them. RX-7s are not an every day car that mechanics work on a lot. Now a huge number of people here do there own work and work for others. Not because its there job but because they love it. I bet they work on rotaries much more that the average cert. mechanic at the local shop. I would take the advise of these people before that of someone that has limited exp. on rotaries.

with a fast spooling turbo you shouldn't need much over 7500-8000 rpm.

If you paid a certified mechanic to tune your car and it idles at 1200 rpm, you should take the car back and ask him to remove his head from his ass BEFORE he retunes your car.

But then again, why would you want an opinion from guys on the internet when you can pay a mechanic to hack the **** out of your car, I mean, there's probably only hundreds of thousands of hours worth of combined experience from ppl at this website strictly from working with rotary engines, not to leave out the fact that we are all here for free...

What value could that possibly that have against a country bumfuck certified mechanic?

So why are you here?

I have a Streetport......as its refered to.. and some work on the exhaust side as well and my car will idle at any RPM I set it to. I also drift and have been drifting for years now in Japan. My redline is set to 7994rpm. Sometimes I want to Rev more just because changing gears is not an option and need to smoke the tires some more. It sounds like your mechanic is not rotary knowledgable.

Most of the information on this board is accurate, I have tested assloads of it in my own realworld experiences and cross refrenced it to accredited and famous tuners in the rotary world. Some things are personal prefrence and somethings cannot be changed.

With a large sideport your turbo options open up a bit and you can run a larger A/R on the back which will give you upper RPM power. Also the type of manifold you use(length, diameter) will determine your powerband and tourque curve as well. I use a TDO6H020G 17cm It spools almost like a stock turbine and chugs way past redline. Breaks traction on 235/40-17" Azenis ST115 tires in third gear. I have not had the chance to Dyno this particular setup but I am so close to 400hp that I should just go ahead and say I do.

I have used HI FLO turbines like the BNR one mentioned and they do not spool slow....especially if your motor is ported. If you want a "large" turbine with a external wastegate then get the big To4e or a TDO6 even your 60-1 will put you in the zone you want to be in. My phlisophy is to build the engine to turn the turbine you want to turn not the other way around.

opinions or a GT 2835 pro or a GT RS?

too small?

RETed 04-21-2004 02:05 PM

GT28 is too small.

Look at the GT35 at least.
