trouble starting 10ae

A guy I know (Dustin) has a 10ae Tii, and the previous owner had it sitting without running it for several years. Dustin had it running, but it wouldn't hold an idle. I pointed out vacuum leak or TPS issue. But now he can't get it started at all. He put in new spark plugs, and will be getting a new fuel filter soon. I was working with him over the phone, telling him how to unflood by pulling the fuse and cranking, and it still wouldn't start.
I only have experience with my n/a, so I'm not sure what's different on the tii. Any suggestions?

too hard to get into details over the phone. tell him to do the basics. like regular tune up stuff such as wires, checking timing, alternator/battery. if all is good check the bac, afm, coils, and other similar things... most likely it is what you suggested with the tps and/or throttle body problem with the bac. give him props on the huge clean up job. i know how long that can take to do well...

If it's just flooded you can tell him to pull the plugs and the EGI fuse out. Take a towel and place it infront of the spark plug holes and crank the engine over. Watch the fine mist of fuel spray out. Don't smoke.
Then tell him to put a couple a teaspoon or so of motor oil into the plug holes. A small funnel and old vac hose works well. Put the plugs back in, the EGI fuse in and see if it will start. Don't let it stall. Rev it a bit. DOn't be afraid to put her up to 4000 for a bit to make the engine stay.
If that doesn't work than it's not flooded and you got other issues such as:
a.) No spark or bad spark (plugs? wires? coils?)
b.) Timming is way way off
c.) Engine has so little compression it won't stay running
d.) major vac leak
e.) The afm is not plugged in or the AFM is no good
f.) Bad gas? Is the gas 7 years old?
g.) No fuel to engine? Easily checked by taking off the feed fuel line next to the oil filler neck (close to) and see if fuel comes out. Have rag handy for this one
There isn't much, there are only 3 things to make it start and run somewhat (not smoothly or anything).
