Hi all, I have an odd problem and I hope you can help. I just had my motor rebuilt with a half bridge port. I was told that in order for this thing to get enough air to start I would have to hold the petal all the way to the floor wile cranking and then let off when it caught. Well the problem I'm having is that it keeps flooding when I do this. When ever i go to start my car i have to spend at least an hour deflooding the thing before it will start. It fowled my first set of plugs and I think it might have fowled this second set.

Here's what i'm thinking, I have 680cc primarys with 1600cc secondarys, when i hold the throtle wide open is it trying to fire the 1600's wile cranking? I have a Haltech E6k but I'm not too up on all its little workings. Do I need to lean the crap out of the 0-1000 RPM maps or is there some menu choice i need to change? When the motor does finaly start it idles at around 1500RPM and i know its running rich you can see and smell the gas coming out of the exhaust.

I really need to hook up a wideband and tune the thing but I've got to break in the clutch before I can really make much use of that. In order to break in the clutch i have to drive the car, in order to drive the car i have to have it start, so you can see the problem i'm having. I've replaced the battery and tripple checked my timing and timing setting in the haltech.

Have you tried to start it without holding it all the way to the floor? Sounds kinda hoaky to me. Who told you this.

what does your cranking timing look like? you might have to open the gas a tad to get it to start, but it shouldnt need to be floored

It is hoaky. In all of the half-BP turbo setups I've built and tuned, not a one had problems starting once they were setup; they certainly never needed "full throttle" when doing them. Whomever told you that doesn't know fully what he or she is talking about, unfortunately.

The guy that did my work does know his stuff. I've ridden other cars that he's built and seen his work. He's good.

If I try and start the car with out holding down the gas it will never start, it will just sit there and turn over untill plumes of gas start coming out the back. So either way its injecting too much gas for cranking.

j9fd3s: The car and my laptop with the maps are about an hour away from here at my house, i'm living on campus currently, but I'll be heading home this weekend. If it helps any I set it up using all the spec's listed on the hitman's site.

I haven't tried starting it with light throtle, i figured that if it's flooding with no throtle light throtle isn't going to make a difference. The thing that is baffleing me is that this is the same map i used with my previous motor with the streetport and it was fine. I thought maybe that I have a leaking injector or one that is stuck open but the fuel system holds pressure with no drop.

I think WOT on the E6K during cranking shuts off the injectors, which would cause starting problems.

the manual suggests doing this for unflooding cars.

If it will idle with the throttle closed it will probably start with it closed, it might need tuning and I can see it possibly needing light throttle @ start (or a cold start solenoid) just to deal with the cold temps, but like I said if once yo uget it started it is immediately capable of idling @ idle position you should be able to start at that position.

It most definitely needs tuning, I will be the first to advocate that.

Once it starts you have to hold the throtle open a little bit for a little wile untill it warms up enough to idle. If it starts and you don't keep on the gas it will die, but thats where a cold start map would come into play i feel certin.

It needs tuning is all.

I concur on the WOT = no injection.
