Transmission Problem, Can't Put into Gear!
#1
Hello Everyone,
Yesterday, on the way home, the 87 RX7 non-turbo I have suddenly lost the clutch pressure, which mean I can't put it into gear. I had to stop the car, pull the clutch pedal back several times and finally get some pressure back, then I can get to first gear, but then the pedal lost pressure and won't come back again. I finally, put it into 3rd gear and made it home.... I redo the clutch fluid, and there is nothing wrong with the clutch master or the slave. Somehow, the gear does not push back on the clutch or something... I don't know... What the hell is going on?
The last time I had my clutch changed back in 2001. They probably put some generic clutch on there. If there is a clutch problem and I have to have new one put on, what do you recommend. I'm not looking to race or anything... it's my work car, so I want it to last a bit longer, 'cause you know how much labor cost to take the clutch in and out.
Thanks for your help!
Liz.

Sounds like the pressure plate has gone out,I have used a **** load of clutches
Centerforce sucks when hot,I have yet to have a problem with a.c.t,I have gone through 4 trannys but I still have the same clutch--go figure.

Mine did that but it was the slave cylinder leaking. It might be that if you are loosing clutch fluid. Its and easy fix and it sounds like that might be it if you just replaced your clutch. Its hard to burn one out if you aren't racing it a lot.

Itz the master or the slave not the clutch, it is a hydraulic problem master, slave or line, if the clutch was out it would not move or it would slip when the clutch is starting to go out, buy a master and a slave put it on 2 bolts 2nuts bleed it out ur done to bleed it out just run a clear hose from the slave to the master (were u put fluid in it at) and pump it till all the air bubles are gone out of the clear plastic line , make sure u take out the rubber seal under the screw on cap u would be surprised how many people leave that in there add fluid and can figure out y it will not bleed out lol
Good luck

Yeah, yesterday I opened both master and slave clutch cylinders, they're all rusted inside, I cleaned them up and put them back together. When I push down the clutch pedal and hold them there; I can hear the cracking sound and then all the pressure is lost. It's definitely either the master or the slave. I'm gonna replace both of them.. just have to find one cheap enough. Thanks for the input... ya'll the best!

Wouldn't it be best to use new fluid, not recycle the old fluid back into the reservoir? Forgive me if I read your statement wrong.

good luck (but try to figure out what the cracking sound is, or were it is coming from before u go any further)

When you are trying to bleed something you dont ever want to push the pedal fast, slow steady motions. If you just stomp on the pedal it causes the bubles to break up into smaller bubbles and it makes the 100x harder to get out. You would literally be bleeding the clutch for hours and still getting bubbles out ot it.
