stop launching at redline u should be fine, its slower anyway, learn to slip the clutch
that shouldn't effect the life of the syncros, when you drop clutch, you are already in gear. powershifting at 7000 rpm into 2nd and 3rd is what kills transmissions.

as for slipping the clutch, they will just kill you clutch, which is no easy matter in changing

Have you had a rebuilt n/a tranny go bad, or were all these used?

Rotaryman13B- Yes you can use a TII transmission so long as you either change the bell housings and tail housings (use the tail shaft) i THINK that'll work, or you can do a whole conversion with the TII clutch/flywheel/PP along with a TII driveshaft and rear end and half-shafts. But, im trying to avoid all that fuss and just build a strong "N/A" transmission with stronger synchs. I dont really have a problem with the gears messing up, its the synchromesh from banging the gears.
you have to swap the whole driveline. the t2 is a different style case, usually they shift even slower (bigger = more mass = slower), the t2 boxes usually dont grind they will just not let you in. the na stlye box (m boxes), usually shift a lot better, but we're dealing with 15 year old synchros, and they are one of the wear parts in the tranny.

Just put a tII tranny in it, take the driveshafts over to master fabricators and have them build you a driveshaft

I was wondering that too, maybe if you get a pineapple rebuild or another decent rebuild, this won't happen. After a rebuild on my 86 with some Redline, it was perfect no matter how hard I shifted it. I still have a warranty on my car now so I need to kill this tranny which shouldnt be a problem

Stop Assuming what you dont know. To be honest i have NEVER launched this transmission with a clutch dump. I dont drag race that often either, my problems are with second and third gear synchros. I have some synthetic 90W in there right now, but i forget the brand.. No matter how slow/fast i push the clutch in... if i "bang" the gears it'll scratch, which leads me to think the synchs are gone. If i shift it slow it doesnt scratch, but you cant really shift slow all the time.

Time to ask the knowledgable "Evil Forum" as you guys call it if all im going to get is "stop doing something you arnt doing and i have now idea what im talking about" responses. Thanks for those who have helped.

Kahren- Ill pick up some Redline and see if that helps any, i need to change the fluid in the rear soon anyways so when i do that ill go ahead and change the tranny fluid, flush, and put redline in. You guys know where i can get ahold of some of that around town or would i have to order it offline? I asked "AutoZone" and they didnt know where i could get any, but we all know how intellegent those people can be. Thanks
hey not be a dick, but its obvisouly u that doesnt knwo what u are doing

or talking about if u go thru that many tranny, u cant have that bad of luck.

i beat the crap out of my NA but always rev match the gears, do some launches

and yet to have a problem, knock on wood .

The 86 GxL i drive around has had ALOT of luck with it's tranny, like i said a while back, the car was handed down to me.. it now has 212,000 the car. (not the engine lol that only lasted to 208,000) Anyway, the only problems i am having with my transmission are noisy bearings, when i downshift into second, i get a real whine/squeel sound.. i mean, it's not Terrible, but i can tell the bearings are shot

as far as the syncro's, i think their all A-ok, it doesnt grind when shifting from gear to gear, i use to get a slight grind while downshifting into 3rd, changed the fluid, and i've never heard it since.

the N/a tranny's are great, they just can't handle alot of power, 220-250 MAX, and i'm not even getting 200 at the flywheel yet so i should still be safe..

eventually i would like to upgrade to a turbo tranny, but that's still months in the making, and i'm not really worried about it..

just my 7 cents

They have all been used transmissions usually ones from the J yard. The first one the shift fork bent (???) and locked up. Then i replaced it with a J yard (J-Spec, LoL) tranny and it had slight grinding 3rd gear to start with, which quickly busted up. And now im on this one, which is grinding second and third gear synchs.

Karen- Its not HOW I LAUNCH. Obviously, every problem i have had with a transmission is in the SYNCHROS and not the accual first gear itself. And with all my stuff coming from the J yard with usually 100+K on it i would bet all i have ON BAD LUCK. I seriously doubt i shift so fast the synchs cant keep up and i just grind them down... higly doubt that. I rev match on downshifts... but they usually dont grind then anyways, my problem is WOT and i go to shift (no i dont hold the gas down either while shifting) they grind, and then continually get worse over time (a few months-6 mo) usually. I use synthetic 90W in all my trannys too, so dont go blaming it on "you dont know what you're doing you probably dont have any fluid in there". Damn, i joined this forum to rid myself of people like you (dont take that to heart), but it seems that i get better help with less fuss on the Rx7Club.com . Maybe im not double clutching right? LMAO.

Well, this transmission isnt grinding too bad, just a little in second and thrid, i think ill go get some redline and see if that helps out any.

Thanks.

It cost about 395 for a basic rebuild from Pineapple Racing. I think i can do it cheaper and not have the down time waiting for shipping each way, since this is my only running vehicle of the time. Anyone know where i can get some harder or hardened synchros? (wasnt this the sole purpose of the thread to begin with? LOL)

Thanks again guys.

Irv Hoerr Racing has REM treatment for gearbox parts, i swear by this treatment. It eliminates all external stress risers, and completely relieves all internal stressors. Cryo-treatment is ******* hogshit , is does not work and its a scam, been there broke that.

You can always adapt a nice MVRE STA900 dogbox to the car

Drpo them a line or an e-mail, they are in the middle of reconstructing their website, request a catalog. They have lots of go fast goodies and stuff in it.
