My transmission needs to get rebuilt over the winter, and I don't really want to trust it with a general transmission shop. Should I take it to any race shop, or should I take it to a rotary specialist? (rotary transmission? ) Pineapple has good rebuild prices, but the shipping would kill me. I could take it back to the east coast without a problem...is there somewhere in PA, NY, or NJ where I should take it? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, because the only problem is grinding into second.

Shipping is only 65-75 each way, my tranny shipping was 75 from pineapple to SC.

If you have to go to a race shop, you can try KDR. I'm sure they're probably backed up with winter projects though. Honestly, I had my 86 trans rebuilt at Cottman and the thing was perfect. I know its a chain but they then guarantee it and they can back a guarantee a lot better than a small race shop.

Banzai, who did you have ship the tranny?

FCmaniac, I had considered KDR, but like you said, he's probably already scheduling 3 or 4 months in advance. I had a transmission rebuilt by Aamco before, and it held up well, but it cost me a fortune.

Contact ROB at Pineapple racing, He has a major discount thru SAIA ( a trucking Company). He just adds the charges to your bill. Its also safer than UPS, they are used to heavy items. You just wrap it in shrink wrap and strap it to a pallet

Hey mister, don't knock UPS! lol. I'll give them a call when I am ready to have it done...they definitely have the best prices around.
