well define cheap becuase in the world of RX-7 cheap to some is quite expenisve to other....i'm going to assume you know whats involved...(on a gxl your goung to need to convert to a 5 sppeed turbo transmission as well(300-500 for a good used one plus probly 400 labor and the pedals and things unless you do labor yourself) turbo ecu(40-100), the engine you havea few options (ebay is one a full block(turbo's inter cooler etc.) any where between 1400-2000...you buy a really nice rebuild for about 2300 witha big port and better seals from www.dirtysouthrotary.com those guys are very helpful...but you'd have to buy all the other parts...also their are some other things such as(correct me if i'm wrong) fuel injectors better radator etc. my guess totally thing about 2500-3000 min add another 1500 for labor if your not doing this your self..and about 300-500 for shipping of parts if your not picking them up. so my advice is sell the gxl and buy a turbo II. but if you want to do it and can find the stuff real cheap go at it.

Any authorized Mazda dealer can get them for you. Where are you located anyways? You can call Malloy Mazda in Woodbridge,Virginia. Ask for Ray or Roy. I forget who it is. He is the only guy that deals with rotaries. 1-888-533-3400. They have remans and whole new engines. It is not cheap. Try junkyards also. I have found FDs,FCs,and FBs in there with the block intact. Minus the 3rd gen block. I would've picked that ****** up quick.

G'luck.

also... dont rule out the possiblity of getting another car with some body damage, and pulling the engine. that will also leave u with a parts car to steal interior and other engine **** from. it might only end up costing u like $200 if ur lucky.
