Nothing really different about a rotary swap from any other swap, keep track of what you're doing and you'll be fine! I found it is a lot easier to drop the driveline and yank the transmission out at the same time and seperate the two after it was out. for some reason I was having a hell of a time getting the input spline to mate with the clutch (dirty car talk?) when they were on the garage floor I had no problem getting the two together. (maybe it was the beer)

uh... take your radiator out, it saves a lot of swear words later

um... oh I also had the upper intake off to clear up a little more room. if you do that though, have extra gaskets and fuel injector o-rings on hand.

lets see.... dont forget the beer

and.... make good use of those handy little loops mazda blessed you're engine with, (its almost as if they planned on people needing to remove their engines and gave them something to hook a picker to) you'll find one on the front drivers side just outboard of the alternator and one closer to the firewall where the engine meets tranny (also drivers side) a lot of the bolts hanging around on your block are too weak to bolt a cherry picker too and will tear out the threads (and thats no good).

shoot-dang, thats more than I thought, good luck and happy hunting!

I'll agree with the hillbilly on leaving the transmission attached to the block to pull it out.

That means you don't have to worry about the bellhousing fasteners, you just have to remove the driveshaft, undo the 4 transmission bolts and two engine mounts. If you are confident you can finesse your hoist to get it out, then do it. Much faster and easier.
