Looking at this streetlite flyweel I saw for sale on rx-7store.net
$225.00 for the flywheel. It's a 12.5 lb steel flywheel. It has a counterweight as an option, for $119.00, dont you need that bitch? Spendy little "add on".

Yes, you need it. If not that counterweight, then one from an automatic. Although their advertising is misleading. They claim their lightweight flywheel is "best for street and drag racing vehicles which may require more inertia". "Best" as in better than their 9 pound flywheel? OK, I agree with that. Drag racers typically want slightly heavier flywheels, not lighter. This is especially true for vehicles with little torque. The logic behind their advertising is flawed. If the owner wants to look like an NHRA poster car, they should leave the stock flywheel in place because it's heavier than both the 12.5 pounder and the 9.5 pounder - combined. A lightweight flywheel has advantages, but they did not mention them in the ad.
In case you're wondering, I've got a Racing Beat lightweight flywheel and i think it was a good upgrade. Their product may be good too, it's just the ad that's less than clear.

I got the steel one. Over the 13 years of owning this car I've tossed a fair amount of money on a lot of crap. I'm happy to say the lightweight flywheel was worth the money.
Does anyone have a 12 pound aluminum one? Is there one available that's lighter than 9 pounds?

Thanks for the replies. The counterweight with an aftermarket flywheel wasnt knew to me, its incorportated in the stock flywheel right? I was just commenting on how it was kinda shitty to have it listed as an option. Like you dont "need" it. I mean who needs there engine balanced? haha

I've sold several of them, heard no complaints. I would suggest purchasing from a more reputable vendor so you actually get the ******, but it's worth the money. I would get the matching counterweight
