Are there any symptoms if it should fail or does your motor just eat it much sooner then later?

Well the amount of oil in the crank case should go down if working properly, I'm pretty sure with out the OMP it would sieze fairly shortly.

Naw, just wear down quicker. It uses barely any oil at low rpm.

S5/6 will throw a code for the omp.

Yea, the s5 cars you'll know as it'll go into LIMP. On the s4 cars it wont throw a code, but it'll just eat the motor sooner...

if your unsure, just run premix.

look at the lines, they should have oil in them.. its kinda tricky to tell since they get stained, but you can tell. take a line loose at the pump and start the car for a second, it should squirt some oil. but be careful not to break it, if you do, i have two sets of s4 lines

take the arm loose at the throttle body too, pull it up a little to up the output on the pump.

normal failure is the s4 pump leaking from the shaft seal, its an external leak
