I've been doing some reading about the speedometer, because mine is broken, and it looks like it is completly mechanical. Is that true? I know the transmission end is hooked-up but it doesn't work. Anybody tear down their gauges down and can give some advise here. Thanks.

You'll have to check if the cable is unplugged behind the gauges. Mine has come unplugged a few times. There are 5 screws that hold on your gauge suround, pull them out. Unplug the 4 plugs on the suround. Then there are 4 screws that hold on the gauge cluster. Pull it out and make sure the cable is plugged in to the back. When you put it on, make sure it clicks/locks into place.

you do all that? i just reach up behind the speedo, you can change the cable without taking the cluster out

I can have it out in like 5 min. It doesn't take long to pull 9 screws, and unplug 4 plugs. Plus I have big hands, I doubt I could get my hand half way up there.
