speakers / headunit
Does anyone know what the 12v and ground wire color is on the FC near the headunit? i was looking at a manual and i cant figure it out in the schematic.
Also does anyone know the size of the front speakers? when i ripped mine out i never measured them... threw them away about 2 weeks ago too.

Ok i did some more research with a volt meter and figured it out,
Light Blue/Red is the 12v+ i also found the ground wire, im not going to use it because it goes to other electronics, i'll just screw the wire to the frame of the car
and speaker sizes vary... for my 1987 GXL the fronts are 4''
Rear towers are 6''-7'' (you can cut some plastic to make things fit)
And if people are wondering what i bought, here is the list.
Component amp: Alpine PDX-F6
Front speakers: Alpine SPS-400
Rear speakers: Alpine SPS-600C (i'll eventually be getting the SPX-17PROs when/if i get my woofers)
Tweeters: Alpine SPS-600 + Crossovers
Headunit: Clarion VX400 (only thing that fits lol) Most alpine units come with brains that will be hard to install with the limited space
I haven't decided if i want to put a pair of woofers in the car yet, problem is its a hatch and i don't have a privacy cover to hide them, i'm trying my best to keep things hidden as well.
If i do end up getting a system, it will most likely be 2 10'' Alpine SWX-1043D's in a sealed box. I have never had another subwoofer beat the type X series in terms of sound quality, and build quality, I've used the 12'' Type X subs before in a ported box running 500 watts each on 4ohms. And holy f*** it pounds, My rear view mirror fell off a few times in that car, They are obnoxiously loud.
Powering those subs would probably be Two Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bdCP Mono amplifiers, They are rated at 700watts on a 4ohm load, which is ideal because the Alpine Type X's operate at 500-1000rms so it will actually be louder than my previous system, however because of the 10'' subs in a sealed box it will have tighter, more accurate bass.
Oh and since this will probably come up.
If i ever get the subwoofer amplifiers, they will be mounted under my storage bins on a custom made bracket where the seats normally sit, Currently the alpine headunit is hidden away underneath.
I don't think i've ever posted a picture of the car so here it is, note the paint chip.

nice car man, i've always had the best luck with wiring by checking them with a multimeter. with the key off main power will show 12v at all times. accessory wire will show 12v only when the key is turned forward. as for the ground i'd do what you did as i don't trust grounding through a wiring harness.
