yeah the stock speakers suck big time

you can put 6 1/2" in the rear towers if you get adapters which are basically metal discs with the outer diameter of 8 1/4" and inner diameter of whatever size your speaker is.

you might be able to find some on ebay or people who part their cars. you'll need to rewire. well, i think you have too......you're better off anyway

I had 6.5" in the rear towers, 3 10" pionneer subs in the back enclosed w/ the box, 2 1x2" tweeters in the rear, and stock up front. I had a smaller crappy amp and Clarion CD player running it all. It actually sounded really good...this was in my '88 SE

I used a generic brand 6.5"s. They were 85watt I believe. I used a generic brand amp too. I ran the 6.5"s off the same amp that pushed the 3 10s. I had 3 10s because I found a box that was a prefabbed box and it fit perfectly in the hatch and was made to accept the 10s. The speakers I bought because my stock ones sucked...I only paid $20 for the speakers, lol. The amp was given to me too...so it was a really cheap setup that sounded 10Xs better then stock! The stock amp was removed when I put the new CD player in.

Are you going to run them with the CD player, or an amp? Either way I'd stay around 50 to 100 watts.

I wouldn't try to use the stock wiring, you should run your own wires to the speakers. It can be a PITA, but the factory wires suck!
