So a month ago i bought an '87 Turbo II with a blown engine. My mechanic is rebuilding it for $5000. When i get it back, i want to get a short shifter for it. Should i go Mazdatrix for $200 for Mazdaspeed for $290. Is the extra $90 worth it for the Mazdaspeed name?

ah, but with the interior bits that youre having to handle all the time, it pays to have quality. a sun burnt steering wheel and old worn shifter suck compared to nice smooth new leather
im guessing i will just go with the mazdatrix sport shifter. $90 savings is worth it. i suppose the higher mazdaspeed price is due to import shipping costs and the name. i can use the savings on guage pods and what not. anyways, girls just don't see things the same. the interior parts and AC (which is out but will wait) is for them, and my occasional pleasure. any way, still gotta impress them on dates, they aren't as much into speed.
this is a daily college driver for the next two years. gotta conserve the engine. a port job, exhaust, and maybe a boost controller is all i need. oh yeah, and suspension. I'm gong to do all i can to keep things under 10 psi, as much as i would want to push is further.

I understand that theres alot of autox down there at a&m. Plan on getting involved in any of that?
Actually, a friend of mine down there tells me hes picked up a few pairs free slicks on the weekends when the rich guys are down there autoxing and leave crap when theyre done. It sounded like a pretty sweet deal.

Yeah, it's done by the Texas A&M Sports Car club. They have different classes, and it seems the cheap older cars win...the old profs with their vipers and what not just dont want to push it. I might do it some, i need some practice if i want to drive our formula car for the Formula SAE competition. I dont have money for any suspension mods, so the stock turbo stuff will have to do. I'm kind of tenative about pushing it too hard. I dont wan't to break anything...but i do want to represent the rotary community and kill some V-8's in time. Show that light and agile = zoom zoom.
