So a month ago i bought an '87 Turbo II with a blown engine. My mechanic is rebuilding it for $5000. When i get it back, i want to get a short shifter for it. Should i go Mazdatrix for $200 for Mazdaspeed for $290. Is the extra $90 worth it for the Mazdaspeed name?

i dont have a mazdatrix one but ive heard they were pretty good but anyways dont u think 5000 was a little much for a rebuild?

$5000 for an engine rebuild? That's an awful lot of cash. What type of porting is he doing...some type of "special sauce" https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

my FD engine cost $6000 but it had new everything except rotors and eshaft

are u getting mostly new parts for that engine? and i myself, didnt buy either one of those kits. i just cut it with my dremol and im getting really short shifts. feels just the same as a kit, except ur stick is lower

i bought it for $3000, has new 89 taillights from mazdatrix and 17" enkie rims. any way, the kid i bought it said he was running like 20 psi of boost and thought the turbo was an upgrade. Well, after my mechanic pulled it apart, it seems the exhaust manifold was broken (the waste gate was broken shut) and housings were scratched and beat up. The rebuild includes a new 3rd gen clutch plate, new '91 pressure plate, street port, refinished flywheel, and 3 mm apex seals. Also, the tubing was all jury-rigged with a bunch of clamps and crap, so that had to be replaced. That price also includes labor and everythign.

ah, how refreshing, now i dont feel so bad having paid as much as i did for mine

RX7Aggie 08-26-2002 05:09 PM

I was hoping it wouldn't cost that much. My 86 na cost $3000 last summer. And no, i dont have that much money. That includes $2000 for my 86 that got backed into and totaled, although still drivable. The other is a combination of summer work money from Schlitterbahn and the rest goes on the credit card.

Also, any suggestions for interior mods? I'm thinking Momo steering wheel and shifter.
