Are theres any noticeable differences between a series 4 and series 5 engine?

The engine i might be looking at is out of the car, just swapped cause it was believed to be bad, but the new engine has same problems. It came from a series 4, but the mechanic said that the engine was from a previous swap to a series 5.

S4 = 146hp lower compression rotors

S5 = 160hp higher compression lower weight rotors

main difference is power and compression ratio. if you can get a S5 get it... more power

The series 4 will have a mechanical oil metering pump.

It refers to the way the intake manifold is designed. Also, the series 5 doesn't have mazda stamped on top of the intake.

Are u sure? My NA 1990 engine has "mazda 13B injection" stamped on top of mine.

Are theres any noticeable differences between a series 4 and series 5 engine?

If you are talking about an NA look for parts stamped with N350 for series 5. On turbo series 5's look for N370. This is assuming the engine has been repaired/replaced with the correct parts. Most obvious is whether or not the OMP has wires running out of it. (hint series 5)
